lab1, I cant see us signing any more than 2 players this summer so id imagine the winter programming will be a heavy focus on upskilling our current crop.
If that is correct and we "do" get promoted, I can't see us lasting long in Division 1. If Simpson gets injured, for example, who is going to replace this run-machine? He is 36 years-old and far more vulnerable to physical aberrations. That also applies to Hughes. Sussex have been extremely lucky this season with few if any injuries to our top players. Apart from Haines, Alsop and Coles we require consistent runs from our other players. Imho, we need at least three if not four top class players as cover for batting and bowling injuries. Yet, who knows how much money Sussex have in the coffers? One thing I am confident of, Farbrace will know who to sign if there is available money. His recent past record is top notch. We’re not going to get 3 or 4 quality additions but we certainly need more than one, or dare I say it zero. Not least because the kids can’t cut it. Maybe they can use the money saved by losing Garton, Finn and Chris Wright, unless it’s been swallowed up somewhere.
