A new thread for a new England? Will this be the springboard to that long-awaited World Cup success, or merely another episode of bungling humiliation and lost chances? Post here for all observations, suggestions and conclusions gained from Captain Cook's latest expedition into unknown regions....

Hales left out of the team in the warm up match. All other countries in the world snigger at England as Cook limps to 12 and edges behind and we end up 30/1 off ten overs in the opening game*.

Jordan didn't have the best of times there, you feel he could struggle on those wickets.

Bad light stopped play with 54 needed off 18 overs - at this stage England appear to have had much the best of it against quite a strong side, at least in the batting. Moeen Ali seems to have done everything that could possibly be asked of him and Cook hasn't blotted his copybook as maxh (and probably many others) feared. The downside on the evidence of the figures seems to be Jordan's bowling with a no ball and 5 wides amongst a run rate of nearly 10 per over. Otherwise most seem to have acquitted themselves well and very pleasing to see two early wickets for Finn, who should see himself as the spearhead of England's bowling in all forms of cricket over the next twelve months.

Finn has excelled in one day cricket and is so dangerous with the lift he seems to generate off the pitch. One player I really hope succeeds.

Comment on cricinfo: "This may be a silly question, but why organise 7 ODIs during the rainy season? That would be like organising a football world cup in Qatar during their summer and that wouldn't ever happen. Oh wait..."

Delighted that Moeen has made 100 - something saved from the wreckage.

Oh Calamity! Some members may remember the Archdeacon in All Gas and Gaiters and his catchprase....and the only possible response when we are 6 down for not very many in the 34th over and only Bopara remains.

8 fours, 0 sixes in 43 overs. Perhaps it's a slow wicket . . .

Another defeat for England. Very disappointing, but sadly, not surprising. Sri Lanka are a very experienced and skilful one day side.
