van Zyl in fighting mood as he returns to the Sussex fold after overcoming a, potentially, career-ending knee injury. Stiaan will need to become affliction-free, if his predictions prove correct. Not only must he find consistent form throughout the season, but with no new batsmen signings during the Winter, Stiaan's physical strength and lack of injury is essential.
Do not be surprised if van Zyl is gently brought back to the team with a game here and there. His knee injury has not improved because of a successful operation - the doctors said this was not possible - but through not playing any cricket and a "full rest". So, even the initial net practise could be fraught with difficulty.
Fingers and toes crossed.

The last month has seen a rise of criticism against the latest Aussie BBL tournament, where the women's competition has been more exciting to watch than the mens. Interest is waning amongst the public both via attendances and watching on TV. Simply put, the BBL has lost its zip and zest and become jaded after 8 years of being hailed as 'the saviour of Australian cricket'. Q: How much of this is down to the recent humiliation of their Test players?
While this has been manna to the ears of those who've always believed such tournaments are destroying the essence of cricket, this may strengthen the ECBs decision to create a new T20 competition with the '100 Ball'. If a format is losing traction, tweak it a little.
The problem I've always had is to create consistent success you must have your top country's cricketers playing in it, where International matches come second. This sadly does not happen and why standards, perhaps, are slipping.

Jofra Archer is in the news today as he continues to impress at the BBL08. How about this for one of the coolest catches you will ever see. Jofra brings a new perspective to "chilled".
Which then led to various Sussex supporters becoming worried that Archer will leave Sussex for pastures new. Jofra then responds.

Jason is in a dizzy as his BBL Adelaide Strikers are having a mare of a season after winning the tournament last year. To date, played 11, lost 7, won 4: position 6th on 8 points, 10 points behind the leaders Hobart Hurricanes (Jofra Archer's side). Another outstanding BBL seasonAt present, JG appears to have lost his midas touch exemplified by the Strikers being thrashed by the Sydney Sixers yesterday by 8 wickets. In fact the Sixers won the match with almost 6 overs left. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/scorecard/ECKO44014Yet again, Archer appears to like the Australian climate and people. He is one of the tournament's standouts - again - taking consistent wickets and making spectacular catches like last season and is one of the reasons why last year's losing finalist are looking so strong. www.bigbash.com.au/ladder#gender=menen.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Bash_League

Following on from his failure to get us up, let’s hope next season is the one that restores his reputation

Following on from his failure to get us up, let’s hope next season is the one that restores his reputation Yes, his witterings of ‘ I back our boys 100%, they work very hard at training ‘ wears a bit thin when the results aren’t there. Keep doing the same thing and you’ll get the same result!

Staying on the Jofra Archer theme, I note that with his two wickets for the Hobart Hurricanes yesterday, Archer has speedily reached 100 T20 wickets in all worldwide competitions.
How long did it take Will Beer to reach 100 T20 wickets for Sussex? 10 years... Umm...

Oh no, the 'Home of Cricket' is now becoming obsessed with frost.

I note Glamorgan CCC are going all retro with their music extravaganza in July. My question: How on earth are the club going to attract 10,000+ people with headlining acts like Bananarama and Bonnie Tyler? Is this another sign of how far the Club have come off the rails?
NB: After Swalec's ground naming rights deal ended last season where they had no interest in extending the contract, the Club have reverted back to the original Sophia Gardens title because no-one else wanted the rights.
And what about this for another potential disaster. Reminds one of Sussex's infamous 'Rat Pack' calamity. Why not just show the film 'Bohemian Rhapsody' on a huge screen. This may attract a similar number of people, but be a helluva lot cheaper to stage.

Goodness me, now the counties are all at it. Which one wins the best frost award? Essex looks impressive. Certainly, Hampshire gets the naff prize. ChelmsfordTauntonAgeas Bowl

Frost on Wednesday, snow Thursday, rain today. English weather is never boring. ❄️ Snow at Lord’s 😍
Oh no, and now the Lord's video recording 'person' offers an expanded perspective. It's not Adam Matthews, by any chance?
