Please don't tell me this is the "Jason Gillespie Effect" that somehow bypassed Hove and ended up back in South Australia?

No, hopefully this is the Travis Head effect that’s on its way to Hove!
One loss and one draw so far for Dizzy in the Sheffield Shield.

Talking of Travis Head, that statement in the article below 'deferred for 12 months' could be beneficial for Sussex CCC concerning van Zyl too. (From the Daily Mail)

Came across this interview with Danny Briggs from The Solihull Observer. Players want success and can you blame them? Obviously, he didn't feel any would be coming to Sussex any decade soon. And after completing his move to Edgbaston, Briggs says now was the right time to make a move.
"I’ve had a great time at Hove over the last four years, but I’m delighted to make this move and join Warwickshire and the Bears. I like Paul Farbrace’s exciting vision for the Club, and it aligns with what I would like to achieve in the coming years. I’m looking to be part of all format success and I haven’t given up a strong desire to play at the highest levels again."

Sussex Players having "a Stonking" IPL20 _____________________________________
While all the talk is about Jofra Archer and his "stonking" IPL20 performances with both bat and ball, Chris Jordan is now "coming good" after a poor start. In the last few games Jordan has taken 7 wickets. Below is the latest one.
Jordan plays for the Kings XI Punjab and his 7 wickets presently come at an economy of 32.71. His best IPL bowling performance to date was in 2016, when Chris took 9 wickets at an average of 23.45. He may well improve on this during the days ahead.

'In the Bag' initiative set to continue after Sussex Cricket helps distribute over 1,200 food kits to families __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________You kinda feel proud to be a Sussex CCC supporter when you read a headline like the one above. Amidst the fallout of the pandemic leading to the shut down of county cricket until August, it was important that cricket counties did "their bit" in helping out the local community through the Covid-19 crisis and the Sussex Cricket Foundation (SCF) did just that. Their ‘In the Bag’ initiative of distributing over 1,200 recipe and ingredient bags to local families during the summer holidays proved so successful that it has been deemed now to become an annual fixture. The Sussex CCC Website explains that over six weeks of the summer holidays, SCF worked with the 'Brighton and Hove Food Partnership' to address the urgent issue of "holiday hunger", which is experienced by many families who rely on free school meals to feed their children. In total, 1,247 bags were distributed to over 305 families as part of the ‘In The Bag’ initiative, with £4,000 in funding raised by Sussex Cricket through the 'Together Through This Test' auction. The ‘In The Bag’ kits were put together at Hove Park School (the food hub) by a team of 12 Food Partnership volunteers, before being distributed by Chomp, Children’s Centre Food Banks, WASP, The Phoenix Food Hub and Woodingdean Food Bank. Each kit contained recipes and ready-weighed out ingredients, with the Food Partnership choosing recipes that were simple to make, known to work and provide options for children’s involvement. Information and activities for the families were also included in every kit, with ‘Eat Them to Defeat Them’ activity packs (veg-themed masks, colouring, word searches etc.), Waste Less Save More information booklets and fridge thermometers, and toothbrushes and toothbrushing advice, provided by the Dental Health Team at the local Council, all proving popular. Vic Borill, Director at Brighton & Hove Food Partnership, commented, "Working with the Sussex Cricket Foundation on this project was a really positive experience for us and their enthusiasm for this project was heartening. Over 300 families experiencing food poverty in the city had a nutritious meal a week for six weeks thanks to this project." Jon Filby, Chairman of SCF, added, “Food security is very much in the news at the moment and Sussex Cricket will continue to work with the great people at the Food Partnership to help to ensure that children don’t go hungry in our city.” Sussex Cricket look forward to announcing more partnerships and beneficiaries of the 'Together Through This Test' fund during the winter. Did you know the great man is 85 years-old?!? Unbelievable! It only seemed like yesterday Lord Ted was 80. The spiritual philosophers say your length of physical life is "like a blink of an eye." What can one say about Ted Dexter? Too much to fill this Forum. Without doubt my favourite two interviews ever carried out in the cricketing vista. Onward to 90 years, then, and before that eye blinks again, the Sussex CCC Museum have published a new book aptly entitled "85 Not Out". Each book sold raises £8 to go towards the upkeep and improvement of the Museum. And the first 100 copies are signed by Ted Lord, oops, Lord Ted himself, so get a move on. What a cracking Christmas present for a loved one or friend. The book costs £20. SCF Chairman, Jon Filby, is even happy to deliver it personally to your door, if you live locally to the Hove County ground or Jon's residence in Surbiton. If not, add £3.50 for the P&P costs. Please e-mail Jon at jon.filby@sussexcricket.co.uk if you would like a copy. You can either pay by cheque payable to Sussex Cricket Museum and sent to Cliff Robinson, Flat 4, 44-46 Norton Road, Hove, BN3 3BH or by online banking to Sussex Cricket Museum, Account number 32693860, Sort Code 30-94-41. This should be an interesting contest. Both players are in fine form. Quiz question for the year 2040: name all the teams where Jofra Archer and Chris Jordan played in the same game.

philh, We could set the question in 2030? Hopefully, we will still be alive... just! I know, I know, this should be placed on the Archer thread, but it is Halloween tomorrow, so allow my mischievous imp some leeway. Should we feel sorry for Jof? Come on, when the past England players shipped out to Australia back in the day before aircraft were up to such a long flight, they would be away from their families and friends for many many months. Today, cricketers in bio-secure bubbles have got all the mobile phone and computer technology available to chat with their families and loved ones. Recently the ECB even talked about some getting depression. Perhaps, in the snowflake culture we should be more understanding? Discuss (A-Level paper question).

A blast from the past, but here is a former Sussex cricketer who has been through both the mental and physical mill, taken responsibility for his difficulties, had the courage to try perceived left-field practices to help himself, and come out the other side a stronger and more insightful human being. Hail Lewis Hatchett. An excellent interview by the excellent Cricketer Magazine journo Nick Friend. Perhaps, Tymal Mills should log in to Hatchett's Sport Yogi App? www.thecricketer.com/Topics/features/lewis_hatchett_interview_yoga_sussex_cricket_mental_health.html

The Brits do it again. It's great to see so many England players dominant in the IPL20.

This is the extract that caught my eye:
"We are very hopeful that this is the start of steady trickle of players graduating from our Academy into our senior squad. The appointment of Richard Halsall as Head of Talent Pathway is recognised as being very beneficial to the future of Sussex Cricket. The structure launched in 2019 is already producing results."
Once again, we have to ask what Keith Greenfield's function is. I can't find details of the coaching and staff structure on the club website. WTF is going on?
