You beat me to it, flashblade, I just read that news and was going to post the link! Like you, I think it is equivocal news. It is an opportunity for Beer to show his prowess in something other than one-day games, although not at the highest level. From a Sussex perspective that keeps him on the strength for the one-day matches where he has been an inspiring performer, whilst allowing him to work out his own frustrations. It is also a practical way of developing the relationship with Oxfordshire, which the club wants to strengthen in the hope that it can provide a new source of players for the future. The Oxfordshire Unicorns play in the Western Divison of the MCCA League, along with Berkshire Cheshire Cornwall Devon Dorset Herefordshire Shropshire Wales MC and Wiltshire.

Hope he gets shedloads of wickets, and think he will, then gets a deserved run in our side when the sun's out and pushes on from there. The most held back player in the country man.

He must have the patience of Job. If we assume God to be Robbo, who is Satan, that tests this poor boy?

Oxfordshire are playing a one-day match against Herefordshire today. Will Beer isn't in the team.

I think that is why he isn't in their one-day team.

Thanks, HH. That'll teach me to read more carefully.

Playing for Oxfordshire against Wales MC, Will has just taken 4-54 and 4-99 and scored 57* and 43.

Figures like that, and better, never got him anywhere in the seconds - except Oxfordshire. I would look to leave if I were him. He'll walk into most one-day sides so he'll get takers and any normal structure would then call him up for the longer form after he impressed there. His career has been seriously stalled by the management at Sussex, without justification. Calling up people like Burgoyne and Dockrell was the ultimate kick in the teeth. Beyond belief for me. Makes my blood boil actually.

I will say it again, Beer will never play, all the while we operate a four man attack

I will say it again, Beer will never play, all the while we operate a four man attack Plus the emergence of Luke Wells as a serious fifth bowler. If you have an opening batsman who can also take 30 wickets a season with very serviceable leg spin (he already has 20 this season), then the door is irrevocably closed on a specialist leggie who bats at eight or nine.

It's that batting that's the key BM, we will always need one of the front line bowlers to be able to bat in the top six. Luke is by no means a front line bowler, yet, but he offers better balance to the side than Will would do. Had we still had Prior keeping, or if Ben Brown could show a little more consistency, then again there might be opportunities for Will Beer. One of the bowlers, or a keeper, has to bat in the top six
