Nash Wells Yardy Joyce Cachopa Wright Brown Shahzad Mills Magoffin Hobden That's the side, no question, for once. Never mind over rates, pick a side to win the game and address any issues if they arrise - not necessarily during the game. Their bowling attack looks ordinary to me while ours looks menacing. This time last year our seam attack, or lack of it, was hot topic but two big domestic signings later and kablamo! We'll take these boys and a few others with that side. Robbo said Prior would bat in the top five and keep. He would do wonders for the balance and Brown needs a strong start if it's 50/50 over the next month or two for Prior.

Just to remind everyone, these were last year's averages.

We won the toss and bat first. My favourite day of the year, the 1st day of the CC.

This is the third 100+ partnership that Wright and Brown have put on together in their last 7 partnerships, this season and last, 5 of them for 6th wicket. Quite good at recovery.

That one against Durham last season at Hove was exceedingly impressive. Is that Dave Allen (pompeypop) broadcasting with our own Adrian Harms on Radio Solent? edit: 9 runs now to the Brown/Wright 150 partnership... Make it 5. Fantastic recovery after being 22-3. Now 274-5. Goatmouth from Harms. Wright is out on 96. Puts Hampshire back in the game. 300+ though and Sussex are in with a shout given the seam attack and conditions.

What to do tomorrow, go or stay. I think I might wander over to West end.

pm,
Weather is cloudy but fair tomorrow.
After a calamitous start (22-3) Joyce and Cachopa began the recovery and Wright and Brown cemented this with an excellent 146 run partnership.
Any county serious about competing for the Championship trophy, it is days like this which show their mettle. Sussex have passed with flying colours and if they can reach 350 tomorrow morning, with the seam firepower available, they must be in with a fair chance of taking 23 points given the weather remains cloudy until Wednesday.
At close: 300-6. (Wright 96: Brown 85*: Shahzad 12*)

On my way to Lord's for Middx v Notts! Turncoat - is Lord's closer than Rosey? Anyway, it's a funny old game Saint. We've finished much better than Snotts and Zum and they were well ahead at tea-ish. Quality work by Wright and Brown, looks like they were very positive after a slow start. Well in the box-seat. Welcome to the first division Hants, not much rolling over here.

Good recovery from 22-3. Hopefully we will score another fifty runs within thirteen overs tomorrow and then get stuck into them with the ball.

Very good recovery in the end, but déjà vu with that start. How many times do we see Wells and Yardy go early on, with Nash managing double figures before joining them. With our powerful middle order, it would be nice to have a platform to build on, rather than having to mount a rescue operation. Really need that top three to offer us something solid, mainly because we have few options for positions 1,2 and 3, without moving Joyce again. All in all though, a good first day for Sussex.

Really need that top three to offer us something solid, mainly because we have few options for positions 1,2 and 3, without moving Joyce again. All in all though, a good first day for Sussex. That has been our problem. One short-term solution is for Yardy to bat at 6, with Joyce, Cachopa and Wright all moving up one. This was the middle order for the last 5 games last year and it worked superbly well. It still begs the question of getting that consistent start from Wells and Nash, and both players really have to perform at their best if we're going to get the big scores this year.
