It's turning into a marish morning for Sussex. 88-4 and we now need a major partnership from Nash and Wright to steady the ship. The usual problems where a spicy pitch is proving difficult for the batters. An excellent slip catch by Vince off Berg dismissed Ed. Last season we relied on Captain Marvel to dig us out of these holes. This season he is unable to. Only Yardy showed any defiance this morning with 41.
Let us hope no more wickets fall before lunch.

But .... loooking to the future.... So disappointed that I went fishing this morning instead of going to Hove. Might be a wrong decision if we score 350+., but the carp were good! I think the carping on this forum might not be so good if we fail to get any batting points again.

How many players have we used this season? Now we have Yardy opening, Nash down at 5, a very green bowling attack with no spin option still. It's all a bit of a mish-mash at the mo.

Joyce, Yardy and Wells out to very loose shots and Machan pinned in front of his stumps.
Why wasn't Machan who before this game had scored 373 runs @ 46 not on the scorecard but Cachopa 189 runs @ 16 was?
The outlook is bleak for Liddle, Piolet and Zaidi with Hudson-Prentice being selected ahead of them. Hopefully Beer will take a lot of wickets for Oxfordshire as we will need a spinner in the second half of the season.

I personally think it's great to see Hudson-Prentice getting a proper game. He's capable of runs and wickets and could be molded into the all rounder we need for the future if he's given the chance. I hope he takes it today and has a positive impact on the game. Go well Fynn!

It's interesting what's happened around the country in the County Championship since lunch. When I checked the 7 scores some time before lunch, we had the worst score of the teams batting first. Less than an hour after lunch, we have the best score!

Is there any point in trying to play defensive cricket at Hove this season?

Another sadly predictably poor Sussex batting performance. Only Machan and Wright can say they were out to good bowling or the pitch misbehaving. Any news on the new Sussex batting coach?

Judging by other county scores 251 was pretty good. We needed a strong partnership from Nash and Wright which we got and Hudson-Prentice looked accomplished until getting out to a hoik.
Hampshire 31-1. Difficult to know what a par score is at Hove these days.

If we can shift Carberry and Vince fairly quickly 251 may be a par score

Hampshire 89-3. Carberry out to a beaut from Mags. 10 overs to go so another wicket before close and I reckon parity on day 1. Vince is the big prize.

What I meant was "so disappointed with recent batting performances"...... fishing and gardening it was then! Now which day shall I go? Better not leave it until Wednesday!
