I agree, s&f - although I think it's irrelevant whether they're out in the middle tomorrow morning or playing football in the outfield while waiting for the run-ups to dry out or running a card school in the dressing room while the rain continues to fall.
It's location location location and it simply doesn't feel right to combine an important 'live' match with a pc about such a controversial and damaging topic - particularly as four or five players in the Sussex side in the current match also played in the fixed games. They're going to have far more trouble tomorrow evading journos' questions than ducking Finn's bouncers...

I hope it's to announce the signing of a second T20 overseas player We already have two overseas players - Arafat and Magoffin.

Why do you have to be so gratuitously insulting? It makes posting on here particularly unpleasant and reminds me why I rarely bother.

In the eye of the beholder, pal. Nothing remotely gratuitous or insulting or unpleasant. Simple statement of fact. Jonboy said he hoped for the signing of a second overseas player for the T20 and you responded with the name of a player who doesn't play T20. Why?
If you want to play those sort of games, I'd have to ask you why you chose to insult jonboy's intelligence like that?

I did find the use of the word "disingenuous" both unpleasant and insulting. Why would I not?
The fact is that Magoffin is one of our two overseas players. We are only allowed to register two overseas players. We can't sign another one.
It was not a game. It was not insulting. I was just trying to add a useful factual piece of information to this board because the suggestion that we might sign a second overseas players has often mistakenly been raised by jonboy and others.
It is ironic that on this thread of all that I should be accused of being disingenuous when I was actually only trying to help with a fact.

Perhaps the insertion of the phrase: "and we may not recruit additional overseas players where the existing ones do not wish to play in a particular tournament or form of cricket" might have helped to avoid misinterpretation? Text-speak is a funny thing; it can achieve wonders of economy, but you have to really work at it to get it right.

Well in our dealings via the museum book fairs etc. I've always regarded you as such! I said you were being disingenuous because I assumed you were not only aware of the rules but all the loopholes and the ruses around them. Dirk Nannes, Ryan Harris, Brendan Nash, Azhar Mahmood and numerous other overseas signings have avoided the regulations covering overseas signings. Surrey played Sussex at Hove only last week with a side that included Graham Smith, Azhar Mahmood and Robin Petersen (not to mention Ireland's Kevin O'Brien). I never for one minute took jonboy's post to mean that he was urging Sussex to flout ECB regulations. But if you believed that was what he was demanding, then I apologise .

And, of course, last season Sussex had Magoffin, Styris and Dwayne Smith (who replaced the injured John Hastings, I seem to recall).

Nobody was implying that jonboy suggested flouting the rules... Last year we de registered magoffin and signed dwayne smith and Scotty Styris. This year we have only one overseas for t20 because the way the fixtures fall we cannot de register magoffin to get a second overseas player for t20. JonFilby was simply pointing that out to remind people like me that we can't have more than two overseas players registered. Then you go on to suggest that our Vice President doesn't know the rules....I suppose that wasn't insulting either? anyway clearly the press conference was described as sussex's response to the match fixing charges and jonboy probably knew that, and you certainly did. To describe our Vice President as deliberately disingenuous will clearly discourage him from posting here and prevent the rest of us from hearing his views .

Last season Magoffin was de-registered during the T20 to allow those two overseas players to play. This year because of the change of the season's structure we can't do that without Mags missing vital Championship matches. This is precisely why I posted my text speak sentence about Magoffin. I really do wish I had either written a longer explanation of this or not bothered but it does seem as if we now all understand each other.

Thanks Jon. That explains things very well.

Yes, thanks for that clarifaction, Jon. And to add a little further non-text speak detail: the only reason Magoffin had to be deregistered in order to register DS was that his kolpak status had expired, was it not? In previous years the deregistration issue would not have arisen
And wally - JF is vice-chairman, not vice president - and VC is much more important than VP. Have a look at the letter-head of any American bank, where you will find they list dozens of vice-presidents. But there is only one vice chairman!
