Such a joy to follow a Sussex match where our side are bossing the game... and against Warwickshire at Edgbaston. A brilliant day. May it continue tomorrow. Huge congrats to everyone concerned, particularly the four centurions. Sussex lead by 539 runs with Warwickshire already 3 wickets down. Surely Joyce won't turn down the opportunity to enforce a follow on if he gets the chance? One hopes not, and there really isn't any reason to. I was impressed with the way he rotated the bowling this evening, and he'll need to do more of that tomorrow if he wants to keep the quicks fresh. It looks like being even hotter tomorrow, and one way or another, Sussex will be all day in the field.

Keeping a team standing in the field for nearly two days often produces a couple of quick wickets. I think we should keep batting and hope we can rattle out some out tonight. 550 plays 100 for 3 or 4 at the close would be a good day's work. Maybe there is a God. I think I'll just wish for 17 wickets before lunch tomorrow and see how it goes.

Rarely heard sayings: "Such a good thing Sussex had the resources to go through the different spinning options till we found the one that was right for the circumstances"

I hope when the match is drawn on Wednesday afternoon, Robinson doesn't say, "We did everything we could to winkle them out but it's just not possible to take 20 wkts in seven sessions when counties prepare wickets that are so unfairly batsman-friendly" ...

It would be nice to play Warks every week! Have Nos 4,5,6 and 7 ever scored centuries in the same innings?

Anything but a win will be disappointing from here. We've hit Warks where it hurts, with their own tictacs. Not a bad tactic to use if you can execute it. 17 wickets in two days and the most stupid captain on earth wouldn't bat again from here, unless he had to. This has to be ours.

Has Dockrell been sent back to Somerset or is he not playing because he is now fifth choice spinner after Zaidi, Burgoyne, Wells and Nash?
With the benefit of hindsight he now looks like a panic signing for Arundel, based on Tredwell bowling 59 overs there in one innings last season.
But that is all hindisght; I thought at the time it was an astute loan.

I can't see where the wickets are going to come from. Is Wells or Zaidi capable of a fifer each? The longer Trott remains the more ominous he becomes.
Perhaps, some reality may appear today. Let's hope I am proven wrong. Oh, for the Mushy days.

We need to pick up 2 wickets per session today really.

Could be a long, hard, hot day in the field today.

What happened to the great turning pitch?
There have been around 140 overs of spin so far, netting four wickets, while the seamers have taken five wkts in around 80 overs!

Make that six wkts to the seamers. Well done Hobden - Trott, even the latter-day much dimininished model, doesn't get clean bowled very often... They still need another 282 to save the follow-on, so come on Sussex. Stick at it!

Only 11 wickets have fallen in 8 sessions of this match. This is not a fair wicket.
We need a result from this match - let's hope Warks start to crumble. It must be pretty hot being out in the field all day.
ZZZZZZZZZZ . . . . .

Comopletely agree with that, fb. Sussex have been moaning about having to play on 'results wickets' for the last three months. They should be careful what they wish for: this wicket is a graveyard, good for nothing but boosting the esteem and averages of shell-shocked batsmen.
Wickets at Lords, the Riverside and Trent Bridge all seem likely to produce results in the current round and it is unfortunate that Sussex find themselves beached on a road at Edgbaston.
Unless you're a struggling batsman in which case you simply say, "who cares about a result, I'm going to fill my boots".
