Liddle picked ahead of Hobden (? injured), and Middlesex won the toss and are batting. And they have gone with two spinners, putting Rayner up to No7. If only we had an attack capable of reaching that tail....and two spinners to set against them.

No complaints so far. Two down in the first hour.

Liddle takes his 26th first class wicket in his 22nd game in his 11th season...all of which puts Middlesex at 121-5. Seems to be very tight- and effective - bowling. Perhaps this is the lift in gloom that stonewall was referring to?

Assuming we can polish off the last 2 wickets and bat well, we are in with a shout in this game. Some big 'ifs' and 'buts' there though. What price a blazing ton or more from Luke Wright.

Well done Magoffin, Robinson and Liddle. Now for the batting to shine.

Well done to all of the seamers. Especially Liddle who has been written off by the management team as a four day bowler and has had to see seamers come in on loan, trialists and new signings and be thrust into the Championship team ahead of him. May this prompt the management into putting players into pigeon holes such as a 4 day specialist or 1 day specialist? May they rethink there policy on Will Beer?

Delighted for Liddle today. I've always thought he was signed as a long term replacement for Lewry but the reason he's not seen as a 4 day player is a result of the vast number of injuries he suffered early in his career. Therefore his body perhaps couldn't withstand a summer of 4 day cricket but I could be wrong!

He has always been a good 1 day bowler though!

With team morale and supporters' expectations at an all-time low, can anyone lift the gloom, like a permanent sea fret surrounding Sussex cricket? I'm confident that the club is already taking steps to ensure a gloom lift. Anything more you could tell us FB? Very pleased and relieved that we were competitive today.

Not too shabby on the face of it - bit like Ping Pong. As old wonky mouth says though, you don't know what a good score is until yadda yadda yadda. Sun's meant to be out tomorrow anyway - 388-5.
Oh yeah and spill the beans Flash? That little doosie you wrote pricked my ears up too.

Sorry, I haven't any specific proof - just interpreting a few recent incidents, and I may have made 2 + 2 = 5. However, I am confident that no competent Board would allow the drift and decline to continue any further. If there are no changes, then that will speak volumes.

2+2 can equal five with the aid of a no-ball.
