Excellent pre-lunch session by Wells and Machan taking us within hailing distance of the Middlesex score with only two wickets down. Whatvere has been said or promised to the players by Robinson (M) seems to have worked. Fingers crossed for an afternoon of batting points - now there's a rare treat!

Another 240 runs off 65 overs needed by Sussex.
What is the problem with Patel? First Machan now Wells FFS!

Another 240 runs off 65 overs needed by Sussex. What is the problem with Patel? First Machan now Wells FFS! No problem with him at all, he is a very good spinner - who has ironically just been recalled from loan at Essex, thus allowing Panesar his recall. He is a very good prospect and it is to Middlesex's credit that they will play two spinners. Up to Sussex to play them well.

200 for three, cloudy here in London but forecast to clear. No scoreboard pressure. Press on to 400 by close.

Another wicket chucked away against Patel. Can we stop pressing the self-destruct button against Patel! Very angry now!

Luke Wright, is this a throwback to Alan Oakman or John Barclay? We deserve to be told.

Can we actually try hitting the ball rather than just blocking and waiting to get out?

For god sake what is our batsmen problem with Patel. Why has no one tried to hit him of the attack because playing defensively against him has failed miserably. The good work of our seamers yesterday and Wells and Machan this morning has been completely undone by our useless batsmen this afternoon. Only Sussex could collapse from 155-1 to 216-6. If we don't get at least 300 our batsmen deserve to be shot!

Jackson must be close now. Brown and Cachopa completely out of form. Be brave.

Jackson must be close now. Brown and Cachopa completely out of form. Be brave. Not strictly true as Brown has 673 championship runs @ 37 and is our third top run scorer.

Last three wicket go for six runs but not before Liddle hit a four to scrape us up to 300 and 3 precious batting points! Well played Michael Yardy.
