CP, re Worcester, Replacing Zaidi with Liddle is almost like for like, Zaidi being a tad slower. Don't need a an extra batsman. What we need is someone who could get wickets, something different? Take a chance, try plan B? Play Beer. Wells hasn't got a wicket in the last 3 CC games? Hardly inspiring form from Joyce's go to spinner!
Joyce has gushed over Rashid in the 2nd day report I read, so far 3-160? Surely no worse than Beer would have done for Sussex? So what is the difference? Both bowl at a similar pace from what I have seen of them both. Beer too slow for SCCC but Rashid is OK for Yorks & England? Work that out?
Time for plan B? It's not too late, yet!
Finally, Well done Joyce, about time you lead from the front, Well done Yardy and Brown.

I echo other posters sentiments, just puzzled that it has taken both Yardy and Joyce 75% of the season before they start playing to their potential.
Delighted the media focused on Yardy and his great effort; Joyce was his old self and Brown played an assured 100 even though the bowlers, apart from Plunkett, had given up the ghost by tea-time. Sussex were scoring runs for fun, reminding one of the batting team in their pomp.
A draw beckons as does 12 points. Worcestershire are in the mire, so we should be above them by tonight and lie 7th, 15 points ahead of Hampshire in 9th who have a game in hand.

That Cricinfo article was one of the best pieces of sports journalism I have read for a long time and a worthy analysis of a tremendous cricketer who has served his county and country to the best of his abilities at all times.
Michael Yardy, we thank you for your total commitment and contribution over the years and wish you well in the future - and the remaining 3 matches in your fantastic career.

Cricinfo says Match Drawn. So they've given up for the day already.

Let's hope they give up the ghost at Taunton too. I have to admit it seems tough on Worcestershire that they won't collect any batting points if the game is abandoned but times are desperate for us right now.

Meanwhile the weather forecast is still predicting a fair amount of rain tomorrow, though much less torrential and cataclysmic than previously advertised. There may even be some play Yeah, turned out nice.

An excellent response, and a thrill to get those maximum batting points, and also a strong vindication of Yardy's selection - which I thought to be defensive. Glad I was wrong, though I'd still have liked us to field a genuine spinner somewhere. Yesterday I thought the pitch was getting flatter and less responsive - though I know coverpoint thought it a spinner's wicket. The rate of scoring today off all bowlers - not least the mighty Rashid - suggests that Andy Mackay has prepared something closer to the c.2010 Hove wickets to encourage the batsmen. Anyone on the ground today who would like to share their observations? Meanwhile the weather forecast is still predicting a fair amount of rain tomorrow, though much less torrential and cataclysmic than previously advertised. There may even be some play, but it looks very likely that Sussex will come away with a draw and a total of 12 points, taking them to 122. There is a similar forecast for Taunton, where Worcestershire have one point currently and 113, so they are likely to end up with 118. That sets things up nicely for Tuesday 1st September at Worcester and a 44 pointer Very nicely. Hants have got it tough in fixtures and scheduling - they have three tricky away games and a home fixture against the mightily good, but not that good, champianos. They have to play four games between 1st Sept and 25th Sept, mostly on the road, so could be difficult. Or maybe beneficial, who knows. Our position seems a touch stronger now thanks to 'home advantage' and a solid batting performance from some old heads. Hopefully Joyce has turned a corner and Yardy's experience and fight could prove very telling for the next few games. The Yardy pick might have been vindicated but the balance isn't, for me. I'm sure we'll go into the next game with the same balance but it's wrong I think. We need to fit another bowler in, a spinner, and keep four seamers. With Brown's form all season, Jordan's batting and either of the spinners a decent enough bat it's doable. I would consider Wells' place myself, bringing Nash back up to open.

Yep, and that's what we have to aim to do next season. Now though, beyond Magoffin, Jordan and young Robbo, we could select any tow of the remaining bowlers and it wouldn't make us any more potent

With Shazad out until the year 2525 and Mills allowed to ball only one ball a season, that's certainly true for seamers.

That's only true of the bowlers we've tried JB. Nobody can say that for sure about Beer, and that's the worse thing about it. It seems we're prepared to try absolutely anyone except him. I've definitely missed something regarding Beer, his first class record, 2nd eleven stuff and one-day performances over the years are much more deserving of what he's got. The people brought in ahead of him have been below average. It would be nice to know if Beer is below average in the longer form too. His average after his nine first class matches is 39 with the ball, economy 3.5 - wasn't too shabby a start.

Nine games hey? Amazon dart-blowers have been given longer stints.
