Now on target for a fifth batting point. Is that the first time Sussex have got max batting pts this season (I have a vague recollection that we just missed the fifth point by one over at Edgbaston?) We did it last week against Yorkshire, borderman. It is a habit that has taken a while to acquire, but now seems to be addictive.

And I am correct that is Ben Brown's fourth CC century of the season? Only Bairstow with five has scored more centuries in Div One this season.
Is selction for the Lions tour this winter too fanciful? I guess he's still only regarded as the fourth best wicket-keeper batsman whose name starts with 'B' after Buttler, Bairstow and Billings - although his record this season far outstrips both Buttler and Billings.
on edit: thanks for correction re max batting pts. Didn't follow the Yorks game as closely as I should have done as I was on hol with the grandchildren!

Right again, and Luke Wright is closing on Jonny "Boy Wonder" Bairstow, though some way behind the Somerset old faithful Hildreth. Agreed about both selection prospects and natural justice (lack of).

I've been critical of the policy of selcting the chronically out-of-form Cachopa to keep in white ball cricket. But paradoxically, I'm now beginning to wonder if one of the reasons Brown is batting so consistently well in championship cricket is because he hasn't been called upon to play much of the white ball stuff?

With maximum points gained (and further points for Worcs deferred) and a lead of 227 as I write, is there a case for declaring now and setting to the task of bowling them out?
On edit: Double hundred for Wright, lead of 249, hundreds, too, for Shantry and "I used to be a Test bowler" Ajmal.

Sussex will not want to bat again and as the pitch appears to have flattened out - one wicket all day - scoreboard pressure will be important in winkling out the Worxcs batsmen a second time. So no, I'd bat on for another hour. At five an over that would give a lead in the region of 330 and you'd imagine that should be enough...

It is interesting quite how ineffective the remodelled Ajmal has been this season. The eradication of the chuckers is one of the better recent initiatives. Worcester's promotion last season was largely based on his efforts.

He's in danger of achieving what you may call 'Doing a Dockrell'.

Nash gone for 90. Let's hope the ball kept ridiculously low for the LBW just to make their batters a bit more nervy.

The dreaded bad light - and no floodlights at New Road. Sussex cannot afford to lose too much time out of the game; five pts for a draw will not do, for with Hants seemingly romping to victory v Durham, the table tomorrow could look like this:
Sussex 135 pts Somerset 133 pts Hants 128 pts Worcs 125 pts
But crucially Somerset and Hants still have three to play and Sussex and Worcs only two.
Victory tomorrow would put Sussex on 146 pts and within kissing distance of safety. But if Worcs escape with a draw Sussex's game at Hove v Somerset starting on Monday week is going to be a very tense affair...

They are back on the field. Every session seems to be the most important one so far this season. What would you give to break the back of their innings tonight?
