I believe I am correct in saying that we must better their batting points to be 100% safe and that is not looking that likely.

Is it correct to say that Sussex cannot be relegated unless Hampshire win?

Yes but being the eternal pessimist I can still find a way for them to win from 113 - 5 and being 227 behin!!

Is it correct to say that Sussex cannot be relegated unless Hampshire win? Yes it is, thereafter it becomes a question of bonus points. From cricinfo: If Sussex get one more batting point than Hampshire then Sussex are safe. If Hampshire don't get 200 and Sussex do, then they will be relegated. Hampshire need at least 350 for Somerset to need a bowling bonus point.Points Table for LV= County Championship Division One

Is it correct to say that Sussex cannot be relegated unless Hampshire win? The situtation is as follows: If we win, we are safe. If we draw, we will get at least 8 points, which gives us a total of 165. Hampshire would need to win to match this total, but they would only need to equal our points tally as they would have as many wins as Sussex with less losses (which takes priority). Therefore, they would need 24 points from their game, which means they would need to get maximum batting points by scoring 400+. If we draw and get 1 batting point, we are safe. If we lose, we will get at least 3 points, which gives us a total of 160. Hampshire would need to win to match this total, but would only need to equal our points tally. With three bowling points in the bag, Hampshire would only need to match the number of batting points that we scored. Alternatively, relax and see what happens or pray that Notts bowl well.

All the pre-day 2 fears have materialised.
The Yorkshire groundsman no doubt not so much sprinkled but inundated the pitch with spice and why the 8 wickets in the morning. So now all down to Hampshire and whether they can recover from 89-5. They're not doing a bad job at lunch with 113-5.
It's not good for the pride if you are relying on another club's slip ups but that's where we're at. Hampshire have it all to do but they won't give up without a mighty fight. Either that or Yardy hits another century. As they say, there's never a bus when you want one and then they all arrive at once!
Let's hope so.

Obviously the kind of wicket and the kind of situation when you have 5 wickets down and want to tonk it around at 7.5 an over.....isn't it?

Sussex and Hampshire are now matching each other with their batting.
Sussex: 170-6 Hampshire: 171-6
Go on Yards!
edit: His 50 up - what an extraordinary transformation in the last month.

Notts did get 89 more than Yorks which might prove decisive when it comes down to the results - hopefully!!
