This is not the official club poll - just an opportunity to all those forum members who have suffered and agonised throughout this season to have a chance to express themselves. Who has really deserved recognition in this tortuous season?
The choices are:
Steve Magoffin for 73 wickets, a fourth consecutive high-wicket yield for the old giraffe. Ollie Robinson : from 100 in his first innings for the club and a record last-wicket partnership to 46 wickets in his first season before giving in to shin problems after bowling himself into the ground Ben Brown - for over 1000 runs for the first time, another good unobtrusive bag of dismissals, and for being the most reliable batsman this year Mike Yardy - for late and spectacular blooming Luke Wright - for a big load of stylish runs, epic T20 batting and captaining performances
Vote for one person only. The poll is open until 30 September.

Why is no-one not an option? He's been a star with bat and ball, an inspiration in the field and excelled both in team selection and short-term recruitment.

Hasn't no-one been more of a long term recruitment?
Moddy, you're about as quick a learner as a Sussex batting line-up - why only five days for the vote again? What's your rush, does the new season start in October?
I'm voting Brown but a special mention to mighty Magoffin, the magestic Machan and the, well Luke Wright. I can't think of an apt name that begins with a wer.
Oh, and the reliable Robinson. Not the most exciting compliment but a compliment all the same - well done young man.

Fraudster a moderator? That defies logic.
I see what you're saying though - good job by the way, keep up the good work.

Why is Yardy an option? Machan should be on that list.

Immoderate One, Are you suggesting hypocrisy is unwelcome on this board? I seen to recall we had issues with this last time round. It is wise to reflect that a camel with two humps is not always a one-trick pony.

It is wise to reflect that a camel with two humps is not always a one-trick pony. Surely we are judging player of the season based on the whole season. I have never seen any county propose a player for player of the season based on just the last 2/3 games. Yes Machan didn't finish well but overall he was one of our best five players. I agree with Brown, Wright, Robinson and Magoffin. I only said those words to give him up a kick up the arse to get him passed the 1,000 runs mark which it failed to do by 45 runs. The other to mention is that before this season he was nowhere near the championship team and so in terms of improvement you could argue he has made the biggest progress than any other player. I am disappointed for him he has missed out on 1,000 runs by such a small margin.

I've gone for Magoffin. 73 FC wickets is, in my opinion, another superb performance. Because of his consistently excellent performances, we almost seem to be taking him for granted. Whilst Brown and Wright have had really good seasons they don't compare really and whilst Robinson has made a fantastic start, lets hope he continues his progress next year.
Yards is a legend but this year he only seemed to start making a significant contribution after he'd announced his retirement. Perhaps there's something in that, is there a pressurised atmosphere in the team affecting performances? It was like he started playing freely once the pressure was off.

The members of this forum have tied their votes on Ben Brown and Luke Wright at 8 votes each as Player of the Season, with Ollie Robinson following on 7 votes, 1 vote for Steve Magoffin. 1 for Mike Yardy, and coverpoint's strongly implied preference for Matt Machan.
There is no tradition of Chairman's casting vote to resort to, which is fortunate, because I think the vote reflects very well the key performances of this unhappy season. Ben Brown found consistency in his batting that had previously been lacking, and time and again combined with others for partnerships that lifted Sussex from 50-5 to a higher platform. Luke Wright improved on the new maturity he found last year and emerged as one of the leading batsmen in the First Division, statistically on a par with, and in terms of runs made against the run of play, ahead of several who played , much less convincingly, in Tests for England. They both deserve to be recognised and celebrated.
The narrow margin of separation over Ollie Robinson underlines the vast impact this young man made upon the season for Sussex, and his lack of recognition in the hundreds of spiralling awards for LV/PCA/BBC Young emerging neophyte of the year reflects poorly on the impartiality of these voting structures. Abell and Leaning did quite well for their counties; Robinson climbed mountains, in his first year of first-class play, for an under-performing side and taking on a responsibility that he can not have imagined at the beginning of the year. He will be everyone's Player of the Year in the very near future.
