ketmandid,
You make some sensible suggestions.
I particularly agree that the rules and regulations should be prominently displayed. Perhaps, a poll can be carried out for posters to choose the most popular? Or simply choose the ones which proboards suggest on their website.
Forum Rules
While the details will probably evolve, you'll want to implement a basic framework of rules as soon as possible. Getting people to agree to guidelines as they join will be far easier than imposing new rules on an established community down the road. Below is a short list of suggestions to get you started:
Rudeness, insulting others, personal attacks, threats or inflammatory posts should not be tolerated Repeat, redundant posting to increase post counts should be discouraged No advertising, spamming, solicitation or commercial self promotion should be allowed Prohibit discussing any illegal activities No posting of lewd comments, language or photos No posting of misleading or irrelevant comments, stay on topic No posting of disturbing material (benign images that suddenly change to a screaming face) Limiting members to a single forum account is advised
Meanwhile, perhaps you and deepfineleg can acquaint yourself via the personal message facility on this MB.

How do we assess the suitability of candidates for the role of moderator - solely on their willingness to put themselves forward? Are you planning to hold interviews? If so who do I send my CV to? Must be a plumb job!

I can give you a brief description of my position on all things if you would like.

ketmandid/deepfineleg,
Do you have experience of creating/being an administrator of a MB? Initially, you will need to liaise and have the email addresses/phone numbers of Adam Matthews and Zac Toumazi which I can pass on to you via a PM.

E-mail addresses and telephone numbers are all on the club website so it hardly needs private messages to pass on this less than sensitive information. I thought this is supposed to be an unofficial board? Doesn't all this proposed liasing with club officials kind of make it ...er, official ? The club wants nothing to do with the message board. They can't even be bothered to spare a minute of anyone's time to adjust the rules to stop people like me posting as anonymous guests. In fact, they probably quite enjoy watching the board self-destruct before it has even got out of the starting blocks. Man up and take responsibility. You are the most prolific and persistent poster. You have used the old board and this one as your personal blog site, so stop moaning and step forward as a moderator. The so called inner circle didn't ask the club for help and guidance. Its leaders showed initiative and got on with setting up a forum that none of you even knew about until hhsussex publicised it.

So do I need to pass a grammar exam before full acceptance on this board?

And do I take it members of the other board are not welcome on here, despite this claiming to be an open forum, and their seeming to have the skill requirements necessary for this forum to work?

No idea - I work with computers but they be mainframes, the dinosaur of the computer age.
I will help out but as I said it would be good if there were three of four in total as I am unfortunately in full time employment and married!
I am away for a long weekend tomorrow and was trying to find if there is a way to access this MB from an I-phone app, any ideas?
Please feel free to send me some information about Adam and Zac and pass mine on to them. We really need to get some controls in place

Think some are on here (not really, they're nicer than that). You do have to be real top good with the gramer tho, otherwise you is out. P.S. Lawnmower, Frawdy isn't Frawdy, he is a fraud, but not fraudster because that is my new name. Frawdy is a rogue, a wise-guy and a nutter, a little like the old Frawdy, but not the same. Fraudster was Frawdy and before that RFawden but those names are dead, it is just Fraudster now. I ain't got time to p**s about, believe it or not I am a decent-ish person and I like a decent-ish board. All these plebs on here with there 'joke' (ha-ha) names get their kicks in a different way to Frawdy - I mean Fraudster.

Somehow the combination of being offensive and illiterate is just that bit more difficult to take. Not aimed at you Woodie, but if the cap fits.

You're welcome but don't thank Frawdy - unless you're thanking the old one.
