Feel slightly sorry for Buttler. It's only a year ago that cricinfo (you know who) said that Buttler would be England keeper "for the next ten years". He could be forgiven if his young head was turned by such hyperbole and part of him came to believe it (although to be fair I must say whenever he is interviewed he seems a charming and level-headed chap).
The 'Buttler's got the gloves for the next ten years' faux pas may also go part of the way to explain cricinfo's determination to rubbish Bairstow at every turn (yes, I know, hh, that AND the dropped catches...)

Yes, me too. He is a brilliant, natural one day player, and in T20 at least you might as well put him behind the stumps. As a batsman in first class cricket he is currently a very long way down the list of possibles and I think that unless he does spend most of a season really working at batting technique and keeping skills in 4-day play then there isn't much prospect of his playing Tests again. As for Bairstow, we can be thankful that George Dobell has ensured that Farbrace will remain with England to mentor him and give him the help he needs.

Good post,hh. I think that's nail on the head. Has Buttler ever actually played a single uninterrupted season of four day county cricket? I'm not sure he has.
Going way off topic (which was meant to be Big Bash!), mention of how level-headed Buttler seems in interviews reminded me that I've been intending to point out for some time that by far the best interviewee in the entire England side is Finn. He's incredibly thoughtful and insightful and every word seems considered and actually means something (as opposed to people like Morgan, Broad or Bell where you're lucky if one word in 50 contains any sign of intelligent life, let alone meaning).
It struck me that if he can stay fit Finn might even make a captain one day. I'm guessing the last fast bowler to captain England was Bob Willis?
