Aussie press have always described him as 'Lehmann's right-hand man', so like Farbrace is to Bayliss, I think...
And don't forget that according to a Dobell story that appeared briefly on cricinfo for an hour or so before it had to be changed on gronds of being...er, untrue, England's number two was in line for the Surrey job because he was allegedly tired of living in a hotel for 300 days a year. So Dobell was kind of right; he just got England and Australia a bit mixed up. Doh!
DiV is also credited with reinventing Steve Smith (by Smith himself), letting Warner off the leash, the rise of young Burns, the rehabilitation of Khawaja and persuading Lehmann and the Aussie selectors that Voges was not too old for a Test debut at 35.
Quite impressive!
Will he persuade Michael Clarke to plays some games for Surrey this summer? Wouldn't be surprised if we also see S. Smith in a Surrey cap at some point...

Seems to me a shrewd signing. It was never going to be easy replacing Ford.
Meanwhile, 34 days until Sussex's friendly against Surrey. Perhaps, the club have decided not to employ a batting consultant after all?

You missed out the bit about turning water into wine. He's an Aussie, so he's more into slaking the thirst of the 5,000 with three stubbies and five longnecks. Seriously though, he has rebuilt a fantastic Australian top five and saw something that we all missed. Burns, Khawaja and Voges didn't seem anything special when they were playing county cricket, Warner was for a long time dismissed on here as a white ball slogger and I remember Jon Filby telling us the last time the Aussies were at Hove that Smith was not a batsman and never would be. That they're not even missing Clarke, Watson and Rogers is testament to how he has rebuilt the batting unit in double-quick time while England are still looking for an opening partner for Cook, a reliable number three and a KP replacement.

Well remembered BM. That, along with my assessment of Gary Lineker after I saw his early games at Leicester and my certain knowledge that Nick Foldup would never win a major are a notable hat trick.

Post of the week, Jon - even better than stonewall's 'on reflection' joke yesterday, which I was too dim-witted to get. Glad that my memory coaxed you back.
As long as you are not putting your money on Sussex to win Div Two this season, I guess we've got a v good chance!!!

Where's this batting coach then? It's not really Tom is it? I spose they thought they'd hang on until the books for the year were done just in case - case closed. No batting coach 'required'. Rather waste money on expensive flops, has-beens and mercenaries who offer nothing for the future. We could have got in a top coach, batting coach and had money over for two quality T20 only overseas players if we had a man in charge who knew what it meant to have a succession plan in place.
Everybody knows that at Sussex we have a great 'paper' team. The playing staff were not the problem, except for the need to lose three or four who were too old or too injured. The problem over the last five years has been getting the best out of them, getting them to play as a team, getting them to play more consistently. That's all down to the coaches. That's why any good money being spent this year should have been on coaches, not signing the likes of Taylor (so not needed in the Champ) or keeping the likes of Joyce (too old).
After looking at the books the office wallows should have specified the general direction this club needs to go in for the next few years to Davis. I hope so because we already have the talent in place to get us back where we belong. We'll need to shred the playing staff next year of the old expensive crocks and build wisely come then.

Just captured from outside the Hove ground. Sussex Members display their frustration at having to wait for the announcement of the new Sussex CCC batting 'consultant'. www.youtube.com/watch?v=ci77llH0hy4

Unless Sussex are pulling someone out of the blue then surely Adams is the only real candidate? Yardy is coaching a youth team so would probably be too busy. Prior is even busier than that with his cycling team.
