What is going on?! Can't believe we are losing Nash so there must have been a bust up - perhaps he wanted the captaincy? A couple of sentences for a player who has scored 1000s of runs across all formats and given his whole career to the club is a joke. Hope we don't lose Luke Wright now as well. The statement certainly has the tone of a falling out. Very terse to the point. But I have zero respect for any of the club's PR dealings in recent times

Have been told that Nash has been disillusioned with the club following an incident last year. When Wright stood down from captaincy Davis went around Nash's house to offer him the captaincy, which he accepted, and then Davis withdrew the offer the next day.
Imagine if Davis stayed on now, it would be awful.

Come on, let's be fair and respectful to the club media officer. This was/is an unexpected and hurriedly put together press release. I am sure a far longer and more praising one will be appear on Chris Nash later this week. I suspect it is being written now.
I, for one, would like to thank Nash for the many hours of pleasure he has given me over the years. His swashbuckling hitting was a joy to watch. This season's highlight of him and Van Zyl thrashing the Surrey T20 bowlers to all parts in those first 8 overs at Hove will remain a wonderful memory for years to come.

The real shock is Nash. Unless he has been offered 2/3 year contract at a first division county I'm quite frankly shocked.
Would you turn down a three year contract on double the money offer from Surrey? A hugely disappointing end to 26 years at Sussex.

Oh my word. The day Chris Nash leaves Sussex - and asks to be released from his contract - something must be wrong. LEaves a huge hole in our batting, which was already flimsy last season. I was hoping for at least one new batsman of quality to be recruited, that now presumably must be at least two we can expect to come in.

I’m travelling on business so I’m behind with news but I never saw that one coming. I can only echo what others have said about his Sussex career. I just hope some decent plans are in place.

Well it's all happening in Tinsel Town. These players are all past their best. People have been moaning constantly over the last three years about cosy senior players coasting along unchallenged. Don't s**t yourself now.
A lot will depend on who we get in I suppose but I for one would be perfectly happy for Salt, Jenner or Haines to be Nash's replacement. Are we really gonna miss Nash's 30s?
We need two senior openers and that's it - maybe a couple of young back-up seamers. Renshaw/Burns and Duckett would do me.
I'd even lose Wright. Past it the lot of them and they're all part of the same long term problem. Most importantly of course is Davis. The man cares about the club and works hard so I won't be harsh but we need a new man there.
Good luck Nash, good long term servant. Should've been give the captaincy too, can't get on board with keepers skippering.
Up the changes!

There needs to be recruitment - it's not just Nash going is it, it's Yardy, then Joyce and now Nash. Leaves us short on numbers as well, plus we can't just throw in the youngsters, things won't get better quickly that way.

And there I was yesterday writing on my Blog that it was the cricketing doldrums on the South Coast with little news around. Then, some hours later, the bombshell broke that Chris Nash was leaving and this Forum, I believe, may have achieved a record with 36 Members, 1 staff and 542 guests reading this MB during the last 24 hours. My initial comment, it seems, has just bit me on the bum!

Going by that last sentence, is he going to another county? There was a suggestion on another cricketing forum that he was bound for Surrey. The response of the Surrey forum members is less than enthusiastic ovalworld.freeforums.net/thread/781/chris-nash

Hhs,
Don't be surprised if he becomes a specialist T20 warrior and joins Luke Wright, Chris Jordan and Tymal Mills playing the various world tournaments. His averages last season say it all as Surrey point out. Championship, hence county cricket, is a waste of time for Nash. Why bother pursuing it?
Last season he was fourth in the highest scored number of Natwest T20 runs. That looks good on a T20 Franchise CV and the CBT is only just around the corner. Nash the mighty Norseman, perhaps?

Nash to Notts which isn’t a huge surprise

Well that is a surprise!
Whatever can Notts see in him? Poor CC season, average RLC, too be fair a decent T20. But not a young man, nor as mobile and more injury prone. A gamble for Notts with a 3 year contract! Good work by his agent I say. Sand to the Arabs?
Peter Moores must see something in him to give him 3 years.
I wish him well,

I’m not at all surprised. I would imagine there were lots of chats during the last game with Notts with Peter Moores, where Nash would have voiced his frustrations with Sussex. Good luck to him, I think he’s a good fit for Notts although 3 years does seem generous.
