Cv, I disagree. By flying over and meeting up with Fizz's entourage + speaking directly to Mr Fizz, face to face, and saying 'You have committed to Sussex CCC' may make a massive difference. At present, it is humiliating for Sussex. We are being treated like fools. Time to regain our pride and take back control of the situation. Having Mr Fizz playing for us could be the difference between Sussex reaching T20 Finals Day and not. I don't understand this rolling over and giving up so lamely. Or we could simply write mug across our forehead!

Another way of looking at it is, will Sussex get the best out of him if he doesn't want to be here? Pull the plug and use the resources in recruiting an all rounder PDQ.

I thought Luke Wright's faith that Susex were going to get a definitive answer by phoning Bangladesh on Sunday was a little misplaced!
Interesting comment on cricinfo this morning from someone called Moh Raman in Bangladesh : "We all knew Mustafizur would not go to England before Eid (end of ramadan festival) He mentioned right after he finished IPL that he will celebrate EID with his family. Those who read Bengali news papers or English new papers from Bangladesh knew that at least 3 weeks ago. BCB should have provided clear information to Sussex as they could have signed another player rather waiting for Mustafizur as The Fizz isn't interested to play at all. Injuries are need to be looked after but what is surprising is the player himself isn't eager to play in England which is a life time opportunity for any player. BCB should act on this matter soon. Coach and selectors want The Fizz to play in England because sooner or later his way of bowling would be neutralised by batsmen and he needs to develop new skill to counter those plans."
He seems well-informed and if he is right, it seems that it was known weeks ago that the player was still going to be in Bangladesh for Eid on July 5/6/7 but this information was not relayed to Sussex, as Toumasi blithely insisted last week that it wasn't a factor.
Again, if Moh Raman is right, the problem is not the BCB or the national team's coach and selectors but the player himself : he simply doesn't want to come. He was telling "close friends" that back in May when the IPL was still on and it was reported at the time.
The message is clear: he doesn't want to play in England, even though the Bangladesh cricket authorities want him to do so as they know it will make him a better player .
Therefore, I have to agree with others - cancel the contract and move on. Should have been cancelled weeks ago when his reluctance first became evident.
Sussex doesn't need reluctant players, however good they are.

There is certainly a whiff of bull emanating from Dhaka.

If he does arrive you would hope an attack of Jordan, Mills, Mustafizur and two from Beer/Robinson/Shahzad/Garton/Briggs would be good enough to win, say, three of those last four v Hants, Essex , Surrey and Glamorgan. At the risk of sounding like one of Cheerleader Filby's more excitable posts, that's a stellar trio of seam bowlers in a T20 Blast that the ECB chairman says is "mediocre" but which means Sussex's attack will rival any trio in the IPL/|Big Bash/CPL - the fastest bowler in England, the best purveyor of yorkers in the country and an overseas signing with more enigmatic variations than Elgar. The key is going to be hanging in there and winning a couple of the next four T20s v Glos, Kent, Middx and Glamorgan without Fiz and missing Jordan and possibly Mills, too, if England play silly buggers over availability. I'm not sure why Fiz is going to play the RLC games as Sussex are already dead in that competition. He's clearly a delicate and highly-strung young lad and was "burnt out" and "exhausted" by bowling 61 overs in seven weeks in the IPL. If he plays both RLC and T20 for Sussex, he's going to have to bowl a potential 56 overs in 18 days - and 52 of them in 12 days. Personally I'd tel him to concentrate on the T20s and task him exclusively with getting us to T20 finals day for the first time in seven years...

Call me an old cynic but the word "expected" means:
Expect
: regard (something) as likely to happen.
: synonyms: anticipate, await, look for, hope for, watch for, look forward to, look ahead to, have in prospect; More regard (someone) as likely to do or be something. "they were not expecting him to continue"
: synonyms: suppose, presume, think it likely, think, believe, imagine, assume, conjecture, surmise, calculate, judge; More believe that (someone or something) will arrive soon. "Celia was expecting a visitor"
I.e not definite. And given the number of times Davis cried wolf over Luke Wright's injury, while I really "hope" Mr Fizz will appear at Hove, I'll believe it when I see it.
Davis quote: "We're expecting him over by July 10th and his first game should be against Hampshire (July 15th)..."
If Mr Fizz does play on July 15th, I'll shake Davis by the hand.

Do we need him if we're going to have the pick of five million Turkish seamers by the end of June?

Do we need him if we're going to have the pick of five million Turkish seamers by the end of June? And when we appoint one, Sussex will announce that they're Delighted to announce the signing of . . .

Three tweets from Steve Hollis this morning. : Kulasekara looks a good signing by @sussexccc. Bowling let them down v Glos on Sunday. Mills, CJ, Shahzad & Kulasekara a decent attack now
: And @sussexccc remain very confident that @mustafiz90 will make his debut v Hants on July 15 after Kulasekara's 3 match stint
: Double boost for @sussexccc as @officialslc international signs and @cjordan is cleared to play v @kentcricket -Good news from Sussex CCC is like buses..! www.theargus.co.uk/sport/14589572.Sussex_snap_up_Sri_Lanka_international/www.espncricinfo.com/srilanka/content/player/49535.htmlBut then it can never be perfect. Ben Brown drops out with Craig Cachopa set to keep wicket...
Finally, a chance to prove himself after a miserable drop in form.

Mustafizur's first game should be the game against Pants, which is earmarked as Kulasekara's last game. Our two overseas are likely to be two bowlers, which I find totally bizarre, at a time when we are so short of impact batsmen.
