I'm surprised Hatchett is included in the squad and not Finch.
It was reported that Wells was getting some turn off the pitch against Essex so perhaps we'll see Beer instead of Briggs? If this happens I imagine Frauster will be apoplectic!

So we've gone from having 4, Prior, Brown, Jackson and Cammish, to having just the one, Brown. I don't count Cachopa, and we also had him at that time anyway Cammish was never actually on the staff. I think the decision to release Jackson was ill advised and short sighted.

Clearly they're still going with the 5 bowler principle, since none of Beer, Robinson or Shahzad is anything more than a No 8 at present. The interesting selection choices seem to be: Beer v Briggs and Garton v Hatchett.

Simply cannot see Beer starting on front of Briggs. That would be all kinds of wrong.

So five batsmen, Brown at six and five bowlers again. So same XI for the third game running I'd guess.
Leics have lost one of their seamers Zak Chappell from the side that played v Kent. He has a side strain and I'd guess he will be replaced either by Naik or Ali.Both bowl off-spin, but Ali is the better bat and if selected would slot in at seven with White dropping down to eight. Hill I think is in the XII in case O'Brien fails a fitness test on a damaged hand/finger.

Ooh I'm popular tonight.
I would go with your team HH, no Finch for Davis though - we can all probably assume that's the one, minimum, obligatory head scratcher for the week. Your team is spot on for me and if I were gonna play a spinner in a four man attack it would be Briggs. I genuinely believe that only Borderman, of the talking readers, understood all my ramblings about Beer, Briggs, balance, negativity and waste last week.
Joe, don't be blind. With ten or 15 overs to go and Essex well and truly one dimensional we had the perfect opportunity for a Garton blast but it was wasted. Inevitably, we only used four bowlers.
Given the squad, I'd just swap Beer for Briggs. Briggs has had a go, didn't do a lot, let's see if Beer can do more. I think it's meant to warm up by Sunday.

A question. Are we supposed to predict what will happen or what should happen? Both, I guess. Wells keeps his place based on his performance in the seconds which is fair enough, although Finch and Salt will be looking to boost their claims to replace any underperformers when they resume with the seconds on Monday. I'm surprised Finch isn't in the squad for this game. Of the squad of thirteen, we have to leave out two bowlers but only one will be free to play for the seconds. Which bowler has bowled lots and doesn't need to turn his arm for a few days? Briggs. And as we are playing five bowlers, there's plenty of protection for Beer IF they get after him.

I wonder if there is a fitness question mark against Briggs hence Beer's inclusion in the squad.

Ground looking lovely, sun is shining and all is well with the world. The twelve on the scorecard excludes Beer.

No great surprise that Leics opted for toss nor that Sussex, having won, will bat.
