I had tickets for the Komedia in the late afternoon to see David James. Similar to Stewart Lee, although not as good, his comic precision sounds like the Sussex bowling this afternoon. So, I missed 9 wickets in 40 overs. F**********k!

HH-hope the pimms was cold!
Surprised Derby didn't request 12 noon start after T20 at Northants last night. We'd have gone on past 8 if they had!

Getting ready to set off for Hove again now, and checking that I have all the attire needed for Hove in early summer: waders, oilskins, shorts and a nautical cap , worn at a rakish angle. That should do it.

Garton didn't play for the seconds on Thursday nor did Mr Sauce. Guess they're both crocked. H-P has ligament damage and will be out for 6 weeks. Garton played in the practice T20's at Hove last week so is perhaps playing on Wed night?

Must win game here. Runs for Machan today, it's in me bone.

F**********k my a**e, S&F.
That's much more like it, excellent stuff, no need for the pitch inspectors at Hove. Turns out my bone meant everyone to score runs except Machan, stupid bone. Be clearer in the future bone, you're making me look like an idiot.
A stupendous max point win on the cards here - and at Hove.

I thought our top four were excellent today. Really good interview by Wells: www.youtube.com/watch?v=13BpSzyCctELike Wells did in the winter, I think Machan needs to give himself a kick up the arse as he cannot continue getting out in the same stupid manner. He is 25 and if he carries on like this he will be released by the age of 27. There no point having talent if there is nothing between the ears! He needs to knuckle down and score consistently. As things stand if Wright was available for the next championship game I would drop Machan as he is too unreliable with the bat. I would drop him to the seconds until he proves he is capable of scoring consistently.

The Norwegian weather forecaster yrno (check it out - accurate unlike the BBC) predicts rain from 0600-1200 tomorrow. With potential after effects, we face the prospect of a badly-disrupted final day. Some on this board suggest we ignore such matters. I am not of their number. We need to get to 400, declare and have our guests back in for a second time by noon today.

I agree declare when we get to 400 and look to bowl Derbyshire out second time around before close of play today.

Excellent appraisal of yesterday's play by Tim Wigmore www.espncricinfo.com/county-cricket-2016/content/story/1021187.html His perceptions are very nicely judged: "Sussex consider themselves a Division One club in exile, temporarily marooned in Division Two." and , reflecting on the huge disparity between the standard of bowling prsented by first division sides and the poor stuff served up by Derbyshire "..this was, indeed, a Division One batting line-up, gorging themselves against distinctly Division Two bowling. " I think he is also right about the need to replace Joyce after this season, and we might as well add Magoffin, for all that he has another year left on his contract, for he is not quite the force of old and next year can only see a further decline.
