Match abandoned. Water got under the covers, apparently . . . This happens at out-grounds occasionally (Kent v Worcs at Tunbridge Wells two years ago was a notorious example). The Ageas is supposed to be a Test ground. Poor by Hampshire. Very poor. But.. hey, Sussex are top of the league. And if Kent can beat Glamorgan tonight, they should still be there come 10pm - which is a handy position to be in just one game short of the half-way stage.

Hampshire website says abandonment due to heavy rain rather than incompetence.

Heard the abandonment announcement literally as I walked into my room at the hotel overlooking the ground! Now sitting in beautiful sunshine looking at a small puddle in the middle of the ground. If it's any consolation, the forecast for this evening is pretty awful www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/forecast/gcp185f25

Hampshire website says abandonment due to heavy rain rather than incompetence. That's not what BBC Radio Sussex says. Adrian Harms: "The groundstaff were caught rather unaware to rush and get the covers on. Water was under the wicket, highly unsatisfied." ( I think he means unsatisfactory). Lizzie Ammon: "The covers came out slowly. Water got under them and the sun is out but abandoned. Actually really crap.I don't like criticising ground staff. They do admirable work most of the time but my view is that this abandonment was avoidable. There needs to be a bit of an inquest on this. It's not good enough."

Shocking. Almost as bad as not getting the floodlights to work. Guilty teams should be punished.

Shocking. Almost as bad as not getting the floodlights to work. Guilty teams should be punished. I think they have been. Hants desperately needed two pts tonight - they now have just 3 pts from 6 games, which is going to make it very hard for them to qualify. They will also have taken a heavy hit financially. I remember when the Hove floodlights failed v Kent and Sussex pulled a really fast one. They batted first and then waited until Kent fell behind on D/L in their innings, whereupon next over Yardy brought his quickest bowler on knowing full well the umpires wold take the players off and hand Sussex the match. Two pts. Thank you very much. Kent left fuming.

Elizabeth Ammon @legsidelizzy 13m13 minutes ago The covers weren't on in time and so this is what happened to the pitch. pbs.twimg.com/media/ClLHlEqWEAAoEKx.jpg:largeI don't like criticising ground staff. They do admirable work most of the time but my view is that this abandonment was avoidable. There needs to be a bit of an inquest on this. It's not good enough. The covers came out slowly. Water got under them and the sun is out but abandoned. Actually really crap. Unacceptable for a test match ground. There is a lot of angry people. Now have to wait 21 days for money back. AdrianHarms "The groundstaff were caught rather unaware to rush and get the covers gone. Water was under the wicket, highly unsatisfied." One person has asked "Will petrol and time off of work be refunded as well as tickets due to incompetence? Can I claim meal tokens for the journey?" T20 international on 5th July should be moved from the Ageas Bowl as punishment.

We could have played on that strip the blotter's on. Mills and Jordan would have been a handful on that.

doesnt look like rain damage, it looks as if a cover has been emptied onto it! Look at the other end!

Pretty awful considering they are a test match ground!
The south group is now starting to split out. Middlesex really need to beat Gloucestershire to avoid slipping into that group. Other than that 4 teams are split by a single point with a fair few games to go.

Other than that 4 teams are split by a single point with a fair few games to go. There's a double incentive to make the top four - an appearance at finals days and bagging a place in the top tier of what looks likely to be a two division model in 2017, probably 8 elite teams in a premiership league and ten in the lower tier. At the moment it looks like Glamorgan, Surrey, Sussex, Glos, Worcs, Northants, Warwcks and Derbys for div one - and I'd be pretty certain that three Test grounds and five non-Test grounds is not what the ECB wants. Some 'big' TMG sides are going to have to improve dramatically to qualify, including Yorks, Notts, Durham, Middlesex and Hants - and also Kent, whom I rather fancied to make finals day for the first time in many years but have been in frankly awful form, losing four of their last five games. After Tredwell and Coles, their bowling is powder puff. The arrival of Rabada for the last few games will make them more competitive but if they carry on losing it will be too little too late by then.

Whilst, I am all for Bms positive views on Sussex's further progress in the T20, there are still 8 matches to go with 4 at home. While, both the RLC and the No.1 spot in the Championship can be dismissed now, unless the club carries out unlikely assaults via the inside fence, Sussex should focus entirely on this OD tournament.
Yet the problem being, we do not know how Sussex will fair without Mills and Jordan - our two star bowlers this season - where great uncertainty remains over Mr Fizz. Which future T20 games will these two be available for us?
While, both Garton and Whittingham have shown great promise this season, T20 is very different. It is a special art which is learnt as both Jordan and Mills have proved. It requires coolness under pressure gained through experience and hard practice. Also, how much will the future weather play a role in deciding the places for the T20 QF?
It is vital Sussex make that QF place but there is still a lot to achieve.
