Why can't Sussex have 2 batsmen getting runs in the same innings? Good luck to Mills getting picked for the IT20 after that load of rubbish! We haven't had two batsmen getting runs in the same innings for years, in any form, despite the leadership changes and a batting coach who's here when it suits him. That is a worrying ongoing trend that we can't seem to shake off with any consistency. I wouldn't be too despondent though sisters. Glos are a good one day side these days and without Wiese and Jordan at 7 and 8 we are seriously weakened with bat and ball, and we knew it. It was either a gigantic tail or four bowlers and we picked a lane. Despite all that, we got quite close. Personally, I think we're a better team setting and squeezing, the old set and squeeze - especially with two spinners. It may have been wiser to play Finch over Briggs in hindsight and use Nash as the fifth bowler but who knows. Signing a Wiese type dude until the Fizz turns up, if he does, would help. The Fizz signing needs to be set in stone otherwise it could be very costly, not having that Wiese type player straight away.

If that was Taylor's last game, are we bringing in a replacement for him? We knew he was only here for the first half of the season, but I haven't heard anything about a replacement. Most other counties, had their replacements signed up, and announced long ago. Why are we so fookin dilatory about these things

Joe, Great pic. We missed Jordan. That was a major difference. And apart from Machan, Wright was left again to score the runs. Mills inconsistency turns him into Boon but good to see Shazza hold his head up high. Nice day - shame about the result! Was there a good crowd there?

Fb,
Excellent crowd. Around 6,250 (5,500 advanced tickets sold - around 750 sold at the gate). Fantastic atmosphere - lots and lots of youngsters - long queues for ice cream - beer tent packed - Arundel at its best. Delighted for the sponsors and organisers after a difficult week.

Not everyone satisfied with Arundel. Two complaints already on Facebook: And we paid £10 to park in a field with 3 stewards which took 50 minutes to get out of. Cheers Sussex. Can someone explain to me wtf Sussex play ANY game at Arundel Poor view - cramped and overpriced food and drink when we have a perfectly good county ground ? Time for change SCCC - drop this ridiculous venue ASAP !

Two complaints from seven thousand - sound like a case for watchdog. I tell you what I'd complain about, all these kids in the *** beer tent. Do what I did and wait til you're fourteen you little punks.

Oh dear. That l-o-o-n-g tail again. I think I'm right in saying we lost six wickets in 28 balls? These things can happen when you're having to go for it at 10 or 11 an over. But it does help if you've got a batsman or two in the lower half of the order! We had 6 batsmen, and apart from Wright, they didn't perform, AGAIN! Up to a point, Lord Copper. But at 122-3 the batsmen had built a decent platform - then six wkts then went down in 28 balls. Pretty obvious why: instead of Wiese and Jordan at seven and eight we had Beer and Shahzad.

They got 15 too many, which, if it matters, I thought at the time. Arguably, the expensive Garton over in the power play and extras were the main reason. However, worryingly, Nash bowled with more guile than the two specialist spinners.
The batsmen did OK. There was just a bit too much for Wright to do. Taylor seemed peeved with his decision and Salt looked good until he took a risk. The long tail ensured we were never going to recover. With either Jordan or Wiese, we might have just scrambled home.
A decent game but we were always just short. I did think we fielded pretty well.

I have to agree with the comments on Arundel. For me probably the most overrated ground in England, Facilities and welcome from ACCC nil. The tea hut, miserable old couple moaning about this and that. No cheerful greeting, 'what would you like' Although moving hospitality and using the bank for spectators was a good idea. Getting in and out, nightmare. Why not open the exit on to the Bury Hill Roundabout? Too simple? As for the cricket, the wicket was slow, so slow. Shown when Mills bowled a short ball that got stump height. Several players looked a game short? Some hadn't played since Guildford. Extras probably the difference? Of more interest I over heard someone say worst wickets of the year, we'd prefer to play at Horsham on a proper wicket and ground. Money before points. Can't get relegated, but the finances look good! Not what the club should be striving for!

That last paragraph seems to sum up the whole Sussex ethos at the moment. A return to the bad old days

Gaf,
I partly agree with your views.
Against
: Poor car parking - organisers not expecting 6,250 people given no KP factor from last year - so not enough stewards - narrow roads leading to and from parking - add the traffic returning from the Goodwood Festival of Speed at similar time - A27 traffic jammed - a perfect storm. Friends of mine took them an hour to just leave the ground area - then stuck in an A27 jam moving east through Arundel for a further hour.
: A poor stodgy wicket - will take another 3 years to improve - in transition - no help to our seamers used to faster wickets at Hove.
For
: Ground can take far higher attendance = more money for club.
: Arundel's location and beauty unsurpassed.
: Financially, well supported by sponsorship.
: This is out-ground cricket - surely a plus - a new refreshing setting.
: Personally, I find staff, stewards etc.. friendly and helpful - my experience is different to others?
Do you want out-ground cricket or not? If so, what are the viable alternatives to Arundel? If not, let's chuck it all in and remain at Hove throughout the season. Personally, I want to see more out-ground cricket - not less.

Why are we so fookin dilatory about these things We are in desperate need of another signing to lift the club after the whole Fizz debacle and Weise's short lived (but successful) stint. The squad needs wins to build the confidence and momentum towards finals day (fingers crossed)

Personally, I want to see more out-ground cricket - not less. S&F - I agree with you about outgrounds in principle, but I don't think Arundel can cope properly with T20 crowds - T40 or T50 used to be very agreeable experiences, as the crowds were smaller, IIRC. I have decided not to attend a T20 at Arundel, because I would spend a disproportionate amount of time getting into and out of the car park, it's a dreadful ground if the weather's poor, the catering is primitive, unless you get there early the 'sight lines' from most parts of the ground are poor. I just don't think it's fit for large crowds. A 50 over match would be a better choice, as I think this would attract a larger crowd than at Hove. I find Horsham a far better cricket watching experience; parking is easier, the natives are more friendly, I have access to the pavilion (not possible at Arundel), where I can take shelter, enjoy a civilised bar and catering facilities all day long. As a day out, Horsham wins hands down for me. The fact that it's a beautiful ground always distracts us from properly assessing the pros and cons of Arundel IMO. It has the whiff of Establishment about it, and cannot cater properly for the size of a T20 crowd.

Fb,

I shocked frawdy when I suggested in a past post that the unwanted and unpopular 50 over RLC should be rolled out to out-grounds around the county. The novelty would attract far more people than Hove and bring cricket to the community.
Question: How many outgrounds are there in Sussex that could cater for up to 4,000 people?
I do understand your points about Arundel. It relies heavily on good weather and the parking cannot cater for large attendances re: yesterday. Although, it is unlikely a future T20 here will be aligned with the Goodwood Festival of Speed which only exacerbated the outgoing traffic jams. Poor planning by the organisers, perhaps?
Even so, this won't put me off attending Arundel again. I love the ground and do not view the amenities or experience the types of people, attitudes etc.. as you do. I also enjoyed Horsham but fully understand why the club have given up on the ground. I also look forward to attending Eastbourne next year.
To repeat, we need more out-grounds - not less - especially when it fits snugly into Sussex CCC community drive via their 'Sussex Cricket Foundation'.
I would like to see the club roll out the RLC tournament next season to at least 4 different out-grounds. But which ones?
