I made a good decision. My wife and I fancied a weekend away. I decided on the Pakistan game would be the one to miss as I did not want to miss Arundel or Glamorgan last weekend. I have no regrets.

I'll be watching the tennis then! Me too! What a cynical approach to the paying public - count me out of this one. Feel sorry for the mugs customers who've bought a premium priced ticket only to find they're going to be watching a 2nd XI practice match. Another point; the touring side are entitled to feel they are up against decent opposition in these warm up matches. When England are overseas, they get very miffed if they find themselves facing sub-standard teams. This is poor.

The Sussex squad is even more inexperienced than has been conjectured: Jofra Archer Will Beer Danny Briggs Ben Brown (c/wk) Craig Cachopa Harry Finch George Garton Lewis Hatchett Fynn Hudson-Prentice Matt Machan Phil Salt Abidine Sakande Luke Wells Brown, Machan and Wells are the only regular first team players this season, and though there are strong and justified hopes for the future of a number of others this really is a Second XI team. Why bother to play touring sides if we can't put out a decent strength side to give them a properly contested practice ahead of the Test series? And why charge £2 additional admission and make Members reserve seats to see youngsters outclassed? I do think it was appalling to accept the clash of fixtures. Couldn't we have negotiated with Glamorgan to play the T20 on another day and give Pakistan the courtesy of at least 6 or 7 regular players to face them? www.sussexcricket.co.uk/news-1/preview-pakistan-continue-test-series-preparations-with-three-day-match-at-sussexTo answer your question HH yes I do. I didn't expect to see Archer and Sakande named and I think this is a step too far. My final XI would be: Salt Wells Machan Finch Cachopa Hudson-Prentice Brown (+) Beer Briggs Garton Hatchett

Don't think we play much CC in July so maybe we've ballsed up too - that's the norm though I'm beginning to think.

I would have played Nash and Whittingham instead of Briggs and Cachopa however given the squad of 13 named I believe my revised XI is the strongest possible XI.

Why is Shahzad playing when he wasn't in the squad? Why are Garton, Hatchett and Hudson-Prentice not playing? What is Brown doing behind the stumps?

Why is Shahzad playing when he wasn't in the squad? Why are Garton, Hatchett and Hudson-Prentice not playing? What is Brown doing behind the stumps? 1. Possibly because Sussex realised it was a pretty weak squad and this forum wasn't the only voice reminding them of that 2. Don't know why Garton isn't playing but Archer and Sakande seem to be doing quite well 3. Brown is a wicket-keeper. Wicket-keepers stand behind the stumps and catch balls that are hit by the batsman, or stop balls that are missed

Garton perhaps away with Lions for pre match preparations?

I'd like to know why we're hardly playing Garton. He didn't even bowl in the second innings for the seconds the other day. I thought he was a must for this game. We elected to bowl again I see, even though we have two spinners in the side. We're nuts, and that's normal these days.

At least young Jeffrey's looking like he could be part of an exciting new chapter.

Garton good enough for England Lions but not for Sussex: www.espncricinfo.com/county-cricket-2016/content/story/1033213.htmlArcher two wickets with the first new ball and two wickets with the second new ball. He is clearly a good new ball bowler.

Pleased for Jofra Archer. But putting out a second XI like that is a gross insult to the countrymen of such fine Sussex servants as Imran Khan and Mushtaq Ahmed.

Better than the normal turnout for first day of a county championship. Probably not as many as people would have liked.
