Good coverage with some thought-provoking comments from Will Macpherson in cricinfo here www.espncricinfo.com/county-cricket-2016/content/story/1042451.html . "On a pitch with plenty of bounce, it looks a fine toss for ten Doeschate to have won, though it seems unlikely that the events of last year - when spin took 28 of the 36 wickets to fall in Essex's game with Surrey - will be repeated." "Archer, who, at the end of a slow run, has a beautifully smooth action - which perhaps disguises the steepling short ball that earned his second and third wickets and hurried each of Essex's batsman - looks a terrific prospect. He is a mechanically magnificent beanpole who has that knack of making extreme exertion seem effortless" Macpherson also confirms borderman's query that Finch is having a scan for a blow to the hand, presumably in fielding.

Meanwhile the essexoutfielder message board has numerous comments like this one....I think Essex will be very lucky to get 360 let alone 400 the way napes and the tail have been although moore can hit a bit from memory, can't he? I can see jordan contributing by whipping the tail out" and they conclude that they have done pretty well and might get one more batting point. Maybe, someone can see into the future. Two for Jordan this morning already.

Bat well, score 475, shoot them out and the turning point of the season has arrived at last. On the other hand.......

That's more like it CJ, albeit the tail-enders. 3 bowling points!
Unfortunately Harry Finch has broken his thumb so we are already a batter light.

Think Joyce only needs about 50 more to be the first batsman to 1000 championship runs this season? (currently 70 not out)...

124-0 becomes 127-2. With Brown at 5 and Jordan at 6, there's a lot of pressure on our skipper and ex-skipper.

A stat I was tempted to publish earlier, and held back on out of superstition, but with 4 wickets down and the point proved it can hardly make matters worse.
Nash and Joyce at the time their partnership was broken had made 1718 runs in CC games for Sussex this year: 41% of the total scored by Sussex batsmen.

Effectively we are 170/7 as Finch won't bat.
