Great news! We have some exciting youngers in the ranks, let's hope they are properly managed.
Delray opened the batting with Wright in today's 50 over friendly v Hants although both fell cheaply. Sussex finished 230/9 with Finch continuing his form with another 50 and Burgess the wk trialist also making 50* Beer 49.

Unlikely, my guess would be:
Nash Finch Van Zyl Wright Evans Brown Archer/Robinson Philander Briggs Whittingham/Garton Magoffin
Thats assuming Wells and Machan are unfit to play.

Will he be in the first CC line up ? I hope so! I'd give him a go at three in the county championship.

Delray The Sussex CCC Bright Beam of Sunshine Travels to Australia _____________________________________________________________________________________________
It is good to see one of our most promising batsman, Delray Rawlins, being awarded by the ECB an 'Overseas Placement' in Sydney, Australia this Winter as part of the Board’s ‘International Pathway’ scheme. While many Sussex supporters highly praised Rawlins’ potential this season, he still has much to prove as his 1st XI stats suggest. 4 matches, 8 innings, 121 runs with an average of 15.12. His highest score of 55 was achieved in the final game against Notts. Perhaps, Delray’s most noteworthy score was 96 against South Africa ‘A’ at Arundel in June. There is obvious potential from the West Indies youngster but nothing to get too excited about yet. Therefore, his trip to Australia this Winter to play club cricket in the New South Wales (NSW) Premier competition as well as practising alongside the NSW State squad is an important step forward. And it isn’t just his batting that will be spotlighted but also his spin bowling where Rawlins will be coached by former international Stuart MacGill. To add further kudos Delray is just one of eight English players to be awarded this placement by the ECB. One remembers when Ben Brown and Chris Nash returned from the Gary Kirsten Academy in South Africa during early 2016, how more improved their batting became. The ECBs Performance Director, David Parsons, said of Rawlins: “By exposing talented young players to an unsupported, unstructured cricket programme in a challenging overseas environment, is to develop the skills and also independence required to be a successful international cricketer.” Let us hope Delray gains enough experience and new skills to become the consistent top order batsman Sussex need.

“The Sussex CC bright beam of sunshine ‘? What planet are you on?
Stu Whittingham is currently playing for Scotland, George Garton is selected into the England Lions yet not a single line of blog given to them? Surely there’s more ‘ kudos ‘ in representing your country than being sent on a placement?
Im not saying that Delray isn’t a promising and potentially exciting player but you seem to be rather blinkered in your praise of our young players.

joe,
You have misinterpreted my headline. I was referring to our batsmen and not fast bowlers. I agree entirely, we have a raft of seamer talent, yet not so much in the batting department. The jury for me is still out on Finch and now Machan has retired, who else is there? I would not put Phil Salt in that category yet.
Rawlins, in my view, has the most potential of the youngster batsmen coming through.

I wonder how many of this years academy graduates will be given contracts Probably only batsman Tom Haines, but it isn't the end of their dreams of playing for Sussex if they aren't taken on Didn't Nash only get a Sussex contract following his stint at Uni, where he was converted from an ofspin bowler, to a top order batsman Think it was the same with Whittingham and Sakande, who both earned their contracts through their exploits at Uni

I think Haines promised much but delivered very little as did Rawlins. The only one I’d give a junior contract to this year is Oxley. I’d also hope we keep hold of Salt as I think he’s got more potential than any of the young batsmen.

Continuing the run of feel-good stories this month for Sussex, is the news that Rawlins is continujing his development programme by joining the Lions in Australia for some specialised spin practice, working with Peter Such and alongside Leach, Bess and Virdi. He'll be joined by Matt Parkinson from Lancs and Matt Critchley from Derbys. www.sussexcricket.co.uk/news-1/news-delray-rawlins-links-up-with-lions-for-spin-camp

Nice to see Delray score 53 off 41 balls for the South v the North match. It would be good to see him progress this year.

Delray is shining bright. He got lucky against Gloucestershire after being dropped off a lollypop catch, but you need luck and once he can control his 'six and out mentality', the huge potential is there for all to see. As for his bowling, ideal for the T20 competition. We have a star in our midst, so let's hope Delray can prove this merit again in the QF. sussexcricket.co.uk/news/delray-rawlins-wins-porsche-performance-month-award
