Laurie Evans playing for Surrey scored 41 yesterday, which was the second-highest score in Surrey's total of 187 against Essex. And out for a second ball duck in the second innings, so didn’t even score as many as Finch in the match. For all those thinking he was the answer, he wasn’t and he still isn’t !

Wright or Bopara are a much better answer. Their one-day nonsense is irrelevant this season, we're butchered, we need some stability in the middle order. We will still have young players learning but they will be learning from two of the best. Get them in, some of us still prefer four day cricket.

Evans has signed for Surrey permanently from 2021. Not happy about that one!

Explains why he wasn’t considered for the BWT.
Always looked like a Surrey player to me, bit of a show pony not unlike Reece Topley.
He’ll be a big miss in the T20 side.

I saw that one coming. I did wonder if it would be announced before or after the T20 tournament.

Why?!?? So we’re not picking our most experienced batsman in the BWT (Wells), and we’ve already weakened next season’s T20 and 50-overs teams🤷♂️😡

It could just have easily been Laurie’s decision to leave. We may have offered him a contract extension but he’s decided to go for whatever reason. Players have to make the most of their short careers in respect of progression and financial rewards. I think most players who are offered a lucrative deal elsewhere would take it especially if they have no real affiliation to a club.

At this rate, who's going to be left at Sussex of any quality? On top of this, Luke Wright will be retiring in the next few years too.

I suspect Sussex offered him a one-year white contract and Surrey offered him a two year full contract. Moneybags Surrey will have almost certainly offered him more money (they would have had because of the cost of living in London). He will be a big miss in the T20 side. We need to replace him with a quality batsman who plays all three formats. Having Beer, Briggs, Mills, Bopara, Evans, Wright and Wells playing only white / red ball cricket means we have an inflated squad of 25 players rather than eighteen as most are experienced players they won't be on a low salary either. This seems like a massive waste of money in my opinion. Sign players who can play both red and white ball.

I imagine Coverpoint has it pretty much exactly right on this one.
I think the only thing left is whether he goes before the Blast starts. I'm no expert in pro sports contracts but if this is the case I would imagine that money changing hands would be involved surely?

He’s in the squad for Surrey for tomorrow but then returns to Sussex for the Blast.

He’s in the squad for Surrey for tomorrow but then returns to Sussex for the Blast. To quote the cricinfo press release "Evans will play in Surrey's Bob Willis Trophy fixture against Kent this weekend. A Sussex statement said that Evans would then return to Hove for the Vitality T20 Blast, but ESPNcricinfo understands conversations are ongoing about the possibility of him moving sooner." So Surrey clearly want him for the blast!

Evans has signed for Surrey permanently from 2021. Not happy about that one! 33 by then and overrated anyway. Another one of these one-day only players, we need to get rid of them, so it's a good start. Past his best and his best was to under achieve.

Laurie has tested positive for a banned substance, which he naturally strongly denies. !!!
