Kent 233-9 off 50. Don't think we are out of it quite yet ...

Turns out it was about 80 runs short... Or maybe just a strike bowler short Judging from the scorecard a number of the batsmen got it, but none managed to go on to make more than 45. Would the total have been enough with, say, Rabada? Who knows? But our strength is in our batting and yesterday's total wasn't high enough!

Who knows? But our strength is in our batting and yesterday's total wasn't high enough! Disappointing start against one of the weakest sides in the tournament. Kieron Powell is the only player I've even heard of in the Leewards side. When they play Trinidad at the same ground on Sunday, Kent will really need to be targetting 350 if they bat first and are likely to be chasing that kind of total if T&T bat first... After Coles it is a pretty insipid bowling attack and even the vastly experienced Stevens is unlikely to prove very effective on Caribbean pitches. The batting is the strong suit and the likes of Bell-Drummond and Northeast are really going to need to do most of the heavy lifting if Kent are going to get over the line.

Kent have taken a squad to the tournament which does not include some of the regulars ie Denly, Claydon and Cowdrey as well as Billings so it is certainly not the strongest team. However it is a good chance for some of the younger players to step up and show they could be competing for places in the coming season. The team obviously lacks a quality strike bowler to go alongside Matt Coles and I would hope that this will be the overseas player who Kent must surely get. Maybe they will also target a Kolpak signing as this seems to be the way forward for most counties at the moment. It is therefore difficult to assess how this side will reflect the team Kent will have going into the new season.

Games are not going to be run fests by the look of it. Of the four matches so far, two have been won with lower first innings scores than Kent managed. There are a few more names in the Leewards teams. Chesney Hughes has played for Derbyshire for a number of years. Joseph is the new young fast bowling star .. just establishing himself in the test team. And Gavin Tonge played for Basingstoke (and one test and few ODIs)

Games are not going to be run fests by the look of it. Of the four matches so far, two have been won with lower first innings scores than Kent managed. My point was that every side will fancy itself against Kent's friendly bowling attack and so the batting - which I'm sure we all agree is the side's strength - needs to go big with because scores of 230 are not going to be enough. Hadn't realised the Hughes in their side was Chesney. Do we know for what offence Kent were docked five penalty runs? Sunday's game is apparently not at the same ground but at the Viv Richards stadium, but Kent are back at Stanford's ground for the two games after that.

PLeasing victory for Kent over T&T today with Ivan Thomas taking four wkts and 'Saffer Sean' top scoring with 56.
I confess I was in favour of sacking Thomas in every end-of-season clear out for the last three years. Hard to think of a player who has been allowed to linger longer in the last chance saloon, so credit to the lad for showing he might still have something to offer after all..

Good to see Adam Ball making an impact - but he isn't being used as a bowler which makes me think is future is seen as a bowler and occasional bowler, not as an all-rounder.
