Harris would be a nice fit for us on paper. I haven't seen him much recently though and I guess he's on quite a high salary?

Harris is someone I'd like us to look at, though he hasn't really delivered for Middlesex, which is the reason they'd probably let him go. There was talk of Mills moving on, he would be a different type of bowler I suppose.

Now brother Alex Gidman is also on the move, joining Worcestershire. A good signing for the Pears, they'll be no Northamptonshire next season I feel

A good move by Worcestershire especially with Moeen likely to get a central contract. I am hearing somewhat surprising rumours Mark Wood has been released by Durham. Where do Gloucestershire and Worcestershire go now as both have lost two of their best players?

CP surely Durham aren't go to release Mark Wood? If they do then we should snap him up ASAP

I was staggered when I was told. They have Onions, Rushworth, Hastings, Arshad, Chase, Coughlan, Harrison and Main. On checking my list of contract expiry dates for Durham he has two year to run on his contract so I think must be a mistake as I cannot see why they would be releasing him unless the injury is so bad he is forced to retire.

Probably wouldn't have taken him before, but we are not the side we once were. We are searching for an all rounder, and I can't imagine there'll be too many on the market this winter. Might prefer Kent, where he was on loan, or Worcestershire, where his brother spent some time, although not particularly successfully

he signed a two year deal with Kent a while back but there were loose ends to be tied up at the Trent Bridge end before Notts could officially announce his departure.

Sadly, Sussex are a declining side whereas Kent, after 5 years in the doldrums are showing signs of recovery. Now the Spen Cama Legacy money has gone and there is no annual £640,000 from the interest coming into the club coffers. Question: Why would a talented cricketer come to Sussex when he has a variety of choices elsewhere?
While the club are anti the CBT this may actually give them the competitive edge over smaller counties. My sense is that the ECB will place certain stipulations over the £1.3m a year to those clubs who are in debt by stating 'X' amount will have to go towards paying of their loans. This will put debt-free Sussex in a stronger position.

I think sandf is probably right about the conditions with which the ECB will hedge their payouts following the Durham debacle, but I don't think that is relevant in any way to Will Gidman. He was a successful bolster to them in their belated push for promotion in the last few games of last season and it was obvious that he wasn't going to be part of Notts plans for the future, so my tongue in cheek post (the clue was in the line of leader dots before the query) wasn't to link him with Sussex but the will-he-won't-he game that has been played with Kent these last few weeks.
