Though of course we did manage to sign one who turned out to be pretty good. So good in fact, that we now need to look again as he spends most of his time with team England. Given our clutch of thirty something seamers, we probably need to look at someone a bit younger. What Will Gidman does give you though, is the opportunity to play five front line bowlers without weakening the batting

Forget Gidman Jonboy as eight counties after him including Notts who will double his wages to £90K.

Yes I think he'd be beyond us. As I said, with Jordan regularly away, and only two of our quicks under thirty, we probably need to look for someone younger

We shop in the second hand store because of very significant budget constraints...Robbo also agrees with you and has been interested in every seamer since hoggard and sidebottom and all the all rounders mentioned above. We have over the last few years brought in several seamers and also released several too.Good seamers are difficult to find and that's why we put so much hope in Hobden and hatchett( and maybe even sakande and archer)

No criticism of management implied, it's a tough job trying to maintain our recent success with the current budget restraints However, we need to careful we are not saddled with an ageing seam attack whose best days are behind them. If there is a small criticism, when the budget is tight, haven't we made things difficult for ourselves by handing out two year contracts to so many of the older group. I do feel for Robbo, in that he's been unfortunate that one of the main prongs of our seam attack, Chris Jordan, has been absent with England. If Chris gets a central contract, that will help, as at least we know we will be fully compensated for his absences. It's not just the loss of wickets we miss when Chris isn't playing, it's the balance he brings to the side. Hopefully Robbo can squeeze enough out of the budget to bring in another seamer, though finding one won't be easy. Personally, I'd like us to try for Harris again. I know he signed a new contract last year and his form hasn't been good this season, but from what I've read, Middlesex might let him go. Definitely seems like the sort of player Sussex could work with and perhaps relaunch his career in the same way we did with Chris Jordan

I wouldn't hold too much hope there in Sakande who hasn't played for the seconds this year and who has 17 wickets @ 48 from 20 matches for the seconds or Archer who hasn't played for the seconds for over two months. Nor would I with Moses, Grant or Whittigham. I cannot see Jordan getting a central contract as Stokes has got his place. Jonboy we don't have the budget for a marquee signing like Harris who isn't even out of contract anyway. It is more likely to be another Piolet or Lewis.

I expect like me he watched us for many years win nothing 1986-2002 but remembers recently 2003 county championship 2006 county championship and 50 over 2007 county championship 2008 40 over 2009 40 over and t20. 2010 second division championship 2011 fifth 2012 fourth 2013 third Some think it represents recent success compared to the prior 100 years.compares pretty well with all but one or two counties out of 18. I can't name one better over that period?

Gidman is definitely leaving Gloucestershire for Div One cricket Three counties have already approached him Not sure whether we'd be one of them or whether we could even compete with the wages he'll probably want. He'd be a good fit for us, as he would most clubs, but if we signed him, it could have a positive knock on effect for Will Beer. A bona fide front line seamer batting at six would enable us to play four seamers AND a spinner. Will, as a leggie, could play without the worry of having to tie one end up. He could be used as an attacking option. No doubt other counties could benefit from the same scenario, that's why Will Gidman is such a sought after player. Notts and Durham are two of the counties rumoured to be interested, although I thought Durham had real money problems?

Wages are likely to be the problem. Notts and Durham are two with Notts willing to pay £90K which is 50% more than we can afford if you believe the Dernbach story. Durham shaved £500k off their wages so should money now especially with Collingwood retiring at the end of the season.

Gidman is a player any county would want, but yes I suppose we do have to lower our sights. In hindsight, had we not handed out those two year contracts, we would have had a little more flexibility.
