Typically, the weather is already impinging on county cricket as the start of the first Sussex friendly against Surrey is put forward from this Wednesday (22nd) to Thursday (23rd). Heavy rain is due Wednesday, yet Thursday seems to be a worse day! Ho-hum. www.bbc.co.uk/weather/2654710Play is due to start at 11.45am on Thursday and 11am on the subsequent two days. Entrance is FREE.

Dry and even sunny weather forecast for next week for the friendlies against Somerset and Hampshire, but look at the temperature. www.bbc.co.uk/weather/2646504 I might go down for a couple of hours but it is just too cold to sit out all day and pretend that the windburn is a suntan. The first proper home game, against Kent, is at about the right time of year, mid-April,but it is unfortunate that it clashes with Easter this year.

Technically, of course, most people are away from work for Easter. But there is massive competition from other attractions at this first big holiday weekend of the year, it is a time when families tend to gather, and of course there is little or no public transport in many areas. Maybe it is just my cicrumstances but it is unlikely I will be able to make it to any of this game, which ought to be one of the stand-out fixtures of the year and give some early indications of how both sides will perform.

Yes the logistics of getting to the Kent game have put me right off. Was planning to travel down by train after flying into Heathrow on the Friday. Accommodation is also an issue, with all my usual places booked up for Easter, or holding out for the minimum one week let

I agree with you guys, but I can't believe the scheduling of this fixture is a coincidence. I wonder if it is based on an ill-informed assumption of how families spend their Easter holidays?

SussexCCC news says "a visit from Surrey – has been put back by a day". And they are renowned for being correct

Injuries to Luke Wells and Matt Machan does not help the strength of our batting much. Another injury and it looks very threadbare. Can we call on Joyce for an emergency loan already?
