I'm still honing my PR skills:
"Once again we've been thwarted by the weather. We worked hard to restrict Somerset to 303, three of our bowlers being among the wickets. Sadly, our response was continuously hampered by rain, which had the effect of badly disrupting our innings. Our lads fought bravely and were only 10 runs short when the artificially truncated innings had to close. We remain optimistic that we shall prevail in future matches if only the weather will allow us."

Awaiting Mark Robinson's (Davis rather - edit) report. Will read something along the lines of "we were the better team out there". What a miserable day of cricket and weather!!!

Why are several of you obsessing about a home reporter putting a home biased slant on a report? That's what they do, and who cares. Take a look at the real problems.
We got lucky with the target but still couldn't get there, because we are lacking in direction, leadership, confidence and simple ability.
Wright loves to chase but we do it so badly. Our record chasing over last season and this in all the one-day stuff is terrible. Setting, much better. But we keep inserting.
Glad Garton got a game at last though. The sooner Machan, Wells and Robinson are back the better. While the sooner we concede last place in the group and use the comp as a breeding ground for Salt, Jenner, Garton & Co the better as well.

I'm glad Garton got a go too. I watched the first innings and our bowling was good for the first 25 overs, Wiese and Garton particularly. But as with most of our recent games the opposition took the game away from us in the second half. As soon as a decent partnership starts to develope our bowling is all over the place, almost as if they give up!
The batting is the same as last season, fragile with no one to push on or stay in. van Zyl is hugely dissapointing, in his 8 innings for Sussex so far he's scored 108 runs @ 13 and one wicket. if Luke Wright wasn't the captain he'd be dropped, his last 8 innings for Sussex have produced 156 runs @ 19. It's not good enough but how many more times will Davis make excuses re injuries or the weather or the short boundries etc before something is done.
We've got good players but we don't get the best out of them. It must be at captain and coach level that's it's going wrong.
I can see us being in exactly the same position at the end of this season as we were last if nothing changes.

So the consensus seems to be, we are the same, if not worse than last season, which was truly dreadful. Big changes needed

I'm not sure I've seen three different fielding errors in three consecutive balls before. I've forgotten the order, but I think it was a reasonably easy run out, a reasonably easy catch and careless overthrows. As posted previously, we looked quite tidy for 25 overs but then crumbled. There seemed to be a general feeling of 'they are getting too many so we will lose'.

Right, hands up, who of you were at the game? Seems to me too many comment from an armchair and haven't seen the game. Garton bowled well Joe. Seems if Sussex got within 9 on a D/L chase and re-calculation, i'd say they did OK. Can't be easy chasing such a big score in a few overs?
Agree Nash, LW & SvZ need to get runs. The seamers need to tighten up at the end. Wells & Machan won't offer any more in this format, Robinson might.
Taylor arrives for Glamorgan, leave a seamer out, but which one? Wiese? Discuss.

I managed to see about 30 overs across the two innings. Weekends are crap for me!! I agree about Wells and Machan to an extent but even having someone to bat through the innings ending up on 75 odd wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing. I'd leave Wiese out although I think Sussex see this format as his best so don't think that would happen.

From what I saw yesterday I certainly wouldn't leave Wiese out, he looked threatening through most of the innings. I would rest Archer for tomorrow's game, he was unlucky to have a simple catch on the boundary dropped by Nash off his bowling but apart from that chance there was little else to get excited about. He also missed the easiest run out when he was no more than 3 yards from the stumps and decided to chuck the ball instead of either running it in or rolling it underarm. It could be that he doesn't perform well in cold conditions and it was particularly cold yesterday.
I agree that Robinson would be a good addition but he obviously has a chronic condition with his shins which hasn't been cured yet despite having two surgeries on them last year, a real worry. Ditto Machan and his wrist.
Perhaps it's time to give Salt or Robson a go? They can't do any worse!

What makes you think too many of the above comments aren't from a suitable position? Would you like us to sign a register mate? I made my comments with the benefit of sight, as did at least two other posters judging by what they wrote. Besides, it's amazing what you can pick up through the wonders of the internet in these dizzy days. Certainly enough to make a well informed comment or two.
Machan will certainly improve this side in this format. Not sure why you don't see that grandavefan. Ultimately though, Machan, Wells and Robinson are experienced first teamers and should we need to replace the faltering batting order those chaps are the best we can bring in. That's all.
