The humiliators of Sussex in the Div Two table are now looking the more vulnerable in the 50 Over competition, their medium pacers not seemingly able to achive penetration within the over allotment, and their batting misfiring just as frequently as Sussex. It will be a hard game to call and Sussex will have to hope that the lessons of the Glamorgan game - tight fielding, sustained attack in the bowling, and ability to rebuild the innings and not crumple when wickets fall - have lasting effect. Kent will probably be without Parnell, who experienced heart strains when bowling 4 overs against Somerset, and will probably have to recall Gidman, who hasn't found much form this season. Sussex will probably be unchanged, the weakest place being Wright's and we can only hope he plays himself somehow into form here. I can't see him dropping himself, or entering in a pact with the coach to have a diplomatic "niggle" requiring a bit of rehab in the seconds, so Salt will have to bide his time.

One does feel for Luke Wright. I note his Twitter has gone quiet. He needs an innings even if he has to dig up the pitch through slow grind and prodding. This is when a Head Coach should come to the fore and do everything humanely possible to offer confidence and self-belief to his Captain who has to fire and find form if Sussex have any chance of promotion this season.
Can Luke talk to former or present Captains who have suffered as he is suffering now? You can dish out all the phrases like, "Form is temporary but class is permanent" but this means nothing until Luke gets his first 50 quickly followed by a 100.
Tongues are already wagging that Wright may not have the right temperament to be both a Captain and top batsman. That you are born to be leader. For, when Gary Ballance was made Yorkshire Captain for this season, he promptly fired off a couple of centuries as if Captaincy improves his batting. Perhaps, it is Ballance's public school, Harrow education, which breeds natural confidence and self-belief?
As supporters, it is at times like this, that we must get behind Luke and offer him every encouragement possible. We need him as much as he needs us.

As most of you know, I wanted us to bring in a genuine opener, one who could have opened, both in red ball, and white. I've thought for a while that Luke should drop down to number three, but unless Salt can step up, there's nobody else.

Kent have had a couple of surprising bloody noses in the Royal London Cup thus far. Perhaps the Somerset upset will have hurt the most.
But we know they are a good side and will be targeting Sussex as a must win game.
That marks them out as trouble !
The weather looks set to be pretty disgusting through out the whole day, very chilly and heavy cloud but hopefully remaining DRY.
Its going to be a day that everyone in a Sussex shirt needs to stand tall, even the travelling support and grind out a famous victory in hard conditions.
I will be heading to the St Lawrence ground in the old 206 leaving BHill at 8.30 and have a spare seat if any one needs a ride. Let me know on here.
Good luck to all connections and lets stay strong GOSBTS !

I will be there on Friday to see the second local derby of the season. HH to add to Kent's problems, it was reported on Sky that James Harris has been recalled from loan period at Kent by Middlesex. So we are back to our bowling attack of last season. Stevens, Coles, Claydon. Tredwell + 1 from Hartley, Hunn, Thomas, Gidman. We will be seriously lacking strike bowlers. I will be in Knott/Underwood stand. Be good to say hi to Sussex fans who use this forum!

Good to read that Sussex have "...no new injury worries", although that adroitly sidesteps the issue of when those currently injured will; be coming back. www.sussexcricket.co.uk/news-1/preview-sharks-head-to-kent-for-latest-royal-london-one-day-cup-encounterThe squad is: Jofra Archer Will Beer Danny Briggs Ben Brown (wkt) Laurie Evans Harry Finch George Garton Chris Nash Ajmal Shahzad Jerome Taylor Stiaan van Zyl David Wiese Luke Wright (c) So Shahzad is back in the side and its bye-bye for now to Jonty Jenner who mysteriously appeared in the squad for the Glamorgan game, when Shahzad wasn't injured, and now disappears when he's picked again. A bit odd-looking but I'm sure there's some rational explanation lurking in the secret operations room tucked away on the dark side of planet Davis. No chance either for Salt, but the team did win last week without him. The Kent squad is: Sam Northeast (c), Daniel Bell-Drummond, Joe Denly, Alex Blake, Sean Dickson, Will Gidman, Darren Stevens, Adam Rouse (wk), Calum Haggett, Matt Coles, Wayne Parnell, James Tredwell,Mitch Claydon, Imran Qayyum. Parnell and Coles would be quite a strong spearhead but both have had injury problems and the size of the squad probably identifies concerns over whether one or both of them will fail a firness test. Looked at man for man, without the knowledge of how well Kent performed in the opening rounds iof the championship and how desperately badly Sussex played, it seems inconceivable that we should not prevail red ball or white. It ain't arf a bloody game....

It wasn't Jenner on Tuesday, it was Oxley. Shahzad played for the 2's on Tuesday but went wicketless.
We are coming into the game on the back of a win whereas Kent have lost their two openers and are bottom of the table. Let's hope that momentum will stay with us.
It must be time for our skipper to get a score.

This looks like being a tough run chase down at Canterbury. Over 300 on the cards.

Sounds like Ben Brown has broken fingers and Finch will stand behind the stumps for the remainder of the Kent overs. Big blow to our chances of chasing this big score down. If ever Wright has needed a big score...

I thought the chase was over when Tredwell and Stevens tied it down and Wright and Van Zyl went, but it is looking...intersting. I will say no more for fear of the mouth of the goat.

Didn't think we had much of a chance of chasing that after 331 from Kent and 123-3. Awesome innings from Evans.

Brilliant performance, it would seem. Good to see all the batters get runs except for van Zyl, who scored well against Glamorgan. Is it too early to talk about this week as being a turning point?

Also judging from the twitter feed the club seems like it is now in possession of a pair of kidneys...
