As I was gathering my thoughts before starting this thread they were tending to be on the lines of how inconsistent the Sussex performances have been this year. Every batsman has made at least one good score, sometimes two or three, but every batsman has also failed completely on at least one occasion when their form contribution would have helped ensure a win. The same is true of the bowlers, though Archer and Briggs seem to have grown in consistency as well as effectiveness as the competition has...well you can't say it has progressed so much as stumbled to this place of uncertainty and doubt. About the only thing that most commentators, here and in the professional media, agree on is that the fielding has been poor to awful, although often our opponents have been slipshod too. Whatever happend to that old truism that the big thing that one-day cricket had done for the game was to set new heights in fielding virtuosity? I haven't a clue what changes could be made that would ensure success; who would you drop from Weiss or Taylor? The hat-trick man or the guy who took 4 in an innings? Is Van Zyl for the chop or another 90 or more? Harry Finch has stumbled in the last two games but his solid play backed up Nash and Evans onkly a couple of weeks ago. We seem to have as many conundrums as Hampshire, looking at the comments made by their former official historian and lifelong supporter Dave Allen, in his pompeypop blog here hampshirecrickethistory.wordpress.com/2017/05/15/who-plays-anyone/As pompeypop says rain will not help us. We have to play and we have to win to be sure of getting through to the quarter finals.

Glamorgan have played all their games, so we would be sweating on Surrey's result. If we win, we are still NOT sure to qualify. Only three qualify, so if we win and Surrey win, we are out.

Oh no, that's not good news. Did I read someone say that the game is on Sky? If so, I can load my ransomware screensaver, shrug shoulders at boss and leave work to watch.

The forecast for both our game and Surreys game is for heavy rain all day, I can't see either game being played in which case Surrey will go through.

That doesn't sound good - not that I trust the BBC who seem to correct the weather forecast as it happens. So, we're banking on us winning a 5-over game (is that the minimum?) and Surrey not playing or losing or not playing but Surrey losing in a 5-over game. Doesn't look good.

The squad is
Jofra Archer Will Beer Danny Briggs Michael Burgess (wkt) Laurie Evans Harry Finch George Garton Chris Nash Delray Rawlins Phil Salt Jerome Taylor Stiaan van Zyl David Wiese Luke Wright (c)
Presumably the hope is that there will be enough play for at least a 10 or 15 over dash and that fast-scoring batsmen would be a better option in those circumstances, so there could be a team of Wright, Nash, Salt, Rawlins, Evans, Burgess, Wiese, Archer, Briggs, Taylor, Garton. The forecast suggests they won't get the chance.

At least we have the satisfaction of knowing that we thrashed them.

I thought "What a way to do something...." only applied to impressive feats rather than relying on circumstances out your control?

Great shame - the rain radar shows an enormous belt of rain passing west to east over most of the country. The belt itself covers half the width of the country, and looks solid until at least 6-7 o'clock.
