What does he have to do to get a contract. Shades of Jofra Archer all over again, who they took an age to finally offer a contract, when it was obvious to all, that he was a major talent

Should have been offered a summer contract as soon as Brown was injured, he showed enough in the pre season games for that.

Surely 2 questions must now be asked: firstly) why are we not signing this kid up to a 2 year contract and giving him the stability to perform to his utmost. At the moment he's turning out each day not knowing about his future. Secondly) surely he has earned himself a place when brown returns and allow brown to play as a batsman alone?

This is very good news, could probably take over the gloves in the white ball comps to give Brown a rest. He's also a good attacking batter. Welcome aboard Michael ( or Burgey as I've heard the players call him ) I think he'll be a good signing.

Very very good news. He is a great keeper and has looked promising with the bat.

More good news As things stand, this leaves a couple of places to fill, for an optimum squad of 22, assuming that Mills has a T20 only contract My guess is, an overseas, and maybe another youngster However, that could change if there are further departures

I will happily congratulate Davis and the management if that is true. Our squad is about 27 as it stands if the BBC squad is to be believed.
Seal Salt Mr Davis.

Has signed a one year extension to keep him at Hove till the end of 2019 which is good news. Very good news indeed, and interesting to see this extension so soon after the original short-term contract. Tempting to think that it is the fruits of the first post-Davis review of players and their potential value to the club. As with so many of his selections Davis couldn't quite work out what he really thought of Burgess, playing him when Brown was injured and then dropping him for almost the rest of the first-class season although both with bat and behind the stumps he'd performed extremely well. So well that many of us thought that it might have been better for Brown's captaincy for him to hand over the gloves to Burgess and concentrate on his batting and tactics. As it is, Brown's batting form nosedived in the second half of the season and it was a happy recall for Burgess against Notts. I have been trying to keep track of all the contracts and think the table below is complete - grateful for any corrections on anything I've missed. It gives Sussex a squad of 20 contracted players - sans any overseas players - with which to go into the new season. Last year 27 players took the field in at least one first-class game, more than any other county. Indecision and conflicting ideas seem to have been the hallmark of the Davis era. I hope that his successor will be appointed soon and will be more consistent in his approach.

It has been reported that Michael Burgess has been signed by Warwickshire with immediate effect.
He was apparently offered a 2 year deal with Sussex last year but chose to play out his contract.
That certainly answers some questions as to why he was never selected for the RL.

What?!! Oh great, so we now have no back-up keeper and very little cover for batting in the championship😡🙄

He’s probably too good to remain a back up keeper. Brown’s position as captain, virtually ensures that he gets the gig, and if Burgess wants to keep wicket, he probably has to look elsewhere. Good luck to him, but for me, it’s what Sussex do now We have lost a steady stream of good players in recent years, without ever replacing them, and now that has to change
