I would suspect this is a signing to reduce the workload on Alsop as he will be captaining the CC side whilst Pujara is playing for India. Potentially keeping in the blast on top of that whilst batting 3 or 4 in both formats would've been a lot. Shrewd move, especially as (according to George Dobell) he is out of contract this season at Warks, and the date for when counties can approach out of contract players will be whilst he is with us...

We have Alsop. What message does this send to Carter and Tear. This is rubbish. I thought Farbrace was better than this. It does boost the batting but I'm not a lover of loan signings. Burgess will be an exceptional player to have across all formats so I'm hoping it's part of a bigger plan. It doesn’t boost the T20 batting, his stats in this form of the game are awful, averaging 14 with a strike rate of 110. Not good enough to get into Warwickshires T20 team last year.

Happy to have him in as an addition for T20, but part of a bigger plan? He served us well when he was with us, but re-signing him permanently now would in my humble opinion be a backward step. Carter had an excellent close season down under and has come on leaps and bounds. His keeping this season has improved considerably. We have Tear in reserve, who is a great prospect. These two are the future. We don't need to sign another keeper for either the Championship or One Day Cup. Yes, we need a bigger plan, but that is around addressing our seam bowling attack so that isn't heavily reliant on an overseas or Robinson, when the ECB decide to make him available to play.

It does seem a strange decision. I thought we had enough of enforced chopping and changing wicketkeepers during the Blast last season. Burgess can certainly bat but I doubt he can bring more to our T20 team than Oli Carter would. I recall some of Carter’s 50-over batting performances last year - very impressive.

Not sure about this one. If Burgess is chosen over Carter I’d be very unhappy but we could use some more squad depth and although MB’s T20 record is poor, he does have the ability to succeed.

The last couple of years I've been hearing we need more depth we need more quality etc. Now you want to give more opportunities to the same players we've had for the last couple of years.
We need high class competition for places and if the Burgess signing spurrs Carter on even more then it can only be a positive.

This could be a clever ploy by Farbrace to motivate and spurr on our good players on the rank. I did check the Warks 2nd XI T20 stats for this season so far; Burgess has had 3 innings totalling 45 runs with a top score of 38. His stats don't set the world alight. Why are Sussex paying for a loan player we don't need; and if Alsop keeps it gives us options to develop others. This is a strange one. I hope Burgess contributes to a successful Sussex T20 tournament. Clearly Farbrace sees something I don't. But to be fair he has had to pick up the mess left by Kirtley from last years T20 fiasco.
