One down at last, but it's hard to see anything other than a draw already. Can I claim a reverse goatmouth?

dfl, Is there any chance you can offer us a flavour of the Members Forum? Here's a few notes from memory. Packed forum on Saturday. Bob Warren, Rob Andrew, Mark Davis & Keith Greenfield formed the panel. Rob in his introductory remarks referred to attacks on social media, but wasn't specific. Topics raised from the floor included: Philander will not be replaced as overseas when his contract ends - the only overseas signing is Ross Taylor for T20 (sorry jonboy). Captaincy - no decisions taken yet. Wells knee injury continues to prevent him bowling. A member called for use of 3rd Man - Davis agreed; (I noticed the position was employed later) How do ECB work out who play twice and who once - Sussex play twice v Kent & Notts and once v Derby, Northants & Glam. RA/BW are to meet with Michael Fordham (i.c. fixtures) soon. Rob sadi he is against promotion/relegation in cricket - leads to bottom Div 1 & top Div 2 clubs spending extra. Could Ollie Robinson play as batter only? Mark said he needed to be able to bowl as his batting is not enough on its own - winter shin op seems to have not been as effective as hoped. Michael Burgess remains a trialist. A questioner asked if Robson who is on trial also can play - only if he's offered a 2 year contract. Meeting went on past start of play although about 75% left when given the option at 1055. Thanks deepfineleg. That inevitably raises a lot of questions that probably need to be addressed directly to "Management." Can I ask if Mr Warren or Mr Greenfield said anything specific and memorable?

dfl, Many thanks for that. Like hhs, is there anything else to add or were you one of the 75% who left early?

Mr Greenfield mentioned the word 'pathway' about half a dozen times. Not sure if he was leading us up the garden path or down a yellow brick road.

Wasn't sure about Rob's no promotion or relegation theory. Presumably he doesn't want two divisions as we could end up being permanently marooned in the bottom league but on the other hand struggling to see how we fit in 34 four day matches a season given that we want to play everyone home and away....!!
No merchandising or general promotion of the club at Eastbourne will be addressed as the club admit it was a huge opportunity missed.
Rob was very forthright in his view that the current website didn't do the job of portraying the club in a good and professional way. It's getting to the top of his in tray.
The panel were very much of the opinion that success ultimately is judged by performance on the field and the winning of trophies was a priority in assessing a good season.
The number of injuries was largely attributed once again to 'bad luck' but they did say that the work of the physiotherapy and fitness teams was being assessed.
A good point about the catering was raised by a member whereby since the new contractors have been onboard the sandwiches are labelled as made in Essex and the fish was supplied by a fishmonger from the same county. Why can't we source local produce? Rob was adamant that outsourcing the catering was the way forward for the business and that wouldn't change but that they would work with Centreplate to improve things. The cafe being a particular concern for members as the vibe of the previous Cafe Pastichi has completely been lost.
Rob opened with a strong condemnation of the anonymous attacks via social media recently. Said he welcomes all input, critical or otherwise, but wants it done in a face to face which I think is fair enough. The man is offering himself as available to talk to at any time so anyone with a grievance, viewpoint or praise use the invitation!!

The D'Oliviera decision seemed to spur Sussex on. I suppose this raises the question of why it needed such an "injustice" to get Sussex going.

hhs, The composition of the bowling was predicated on two things: getting Magoffin back into the team at the earliest opportunity, and not upsetting any of the other pace bowlers by asking them to make way. It was unbalanced and ineffective for nearly two whole sessionsWhile I agree with what you say, the end result was Sussex taking 14 wickets in a day on a run-fest pitch. Therefore, Davis's decision is surely the right one however unbalanced and politically motivated. Just 6 more to go before the rains come in the afternoon. Hopefully, odds on to happen given the run-making machine of Mitchell is out. In fact, Worcestershire's spectacular 97-10 batting collapse reminded me of one of Sussex's 'hot 50' classics. edit: Completely agree with Andrew's viewpoint on 'timeforchange' twitter account.

Come on, Sussex. Great start. Cox, Tongue gone (not to be confused with ox tongue).

The rain radar currently shows the effective close of play at around 3:30 this afternoon. It could be a nail biting session.

Ends justifying means, fluffy? My point was all of this could have been over by last night if a more imaginative, varied attack had been chosen. Briggs might only have got a wicket or two in both innings, but his action and angle would have prevented the batsmen from settling into a rhythm as they did for the first 67 overs of the game, and as they have for the last 24 overs.

Also for Burgess surely he has rightly earned a 2 year contract, budget or not. There's no one immediately pushing from the academy, he's proven himself and he's about as cheap as we'll get and we must be the only county without a back up keeper. Seems that far too many of our decisions are business decisions rather than cricket decisions. One t20 overseas being an example. Surely we must find a balance. Cricket success helps business success after all.
