As Hampshire won their opening game against Glamorgan on Friday, and Sussex lost to Glamorgan on Sunday this could already be described as a must win game. No squads announced yet . Ironically Sakande, Rawlins and Robinson have all done well for the Seconds against Hampshire IIs on the Isle of Wight, a game that will run on into Wednesday. Surely Rawlins must be played in the T20s even if he is still finding his feet in the longer form of the game?

I am told tickets are selling well and the first FULL HOUSE of the season may be trumpeted by the club - especially when the rainy weather today is changing to further more sun tomorrow.

In this interview with Mark Davis carried out by Bruce Talbot, the Mills saga reminds one of the Wright affair last season. We were promised Mills would be fit for Wednesday - now he's not. Could become a repeat soap opera alongside Mr Fizz. Let's hope not. www.youtube.com/watch?v=XXsTqfLVKus&feature=youtu.be

He hasn't even been playing and he's injured, not looking like a good investment is he?
This keeps happening. Where is Machan? Played a couple of league games and now out of the picture again, is he still injured? What about Robinson? Playing regularly for the 2's but never in the 1st XI squads, is he still injured?
I believe Mark Davis is out of his depth and is playing a game of smoke and mirrors. I don't buy it and I'm getting increasingly frustrated with all the BS that's coming out of the club at the moment.
I don't care how many tickets have been sold or how much revenue we get from the office pods, I care about Sussex CCC winning!

What a waste of the playing budget that was. I don't think we will ever see Machan play again. I overhead a comment at Arundel who asked the physio and they said "I can't comment". What sort of answer is that? I think the real answer is obvious. Robinson needs to prove himself in the seconds and demand first team selection through his performances. Davis is an exceptional spin doctor much like his predecessor. I would play the same side as Arundel. It is the best eleven we have.

Sussex were extremely poor in the first ten overs with the ball and in the field throughout the innings. For Hampshire Kyle Abbott and Mason Crane bowled superbly and James Vince, Rilee Roussouw and Michael Carberry batted well. Sussex now need 8 wins from 12 games to progress in the competition.

Quick question. How on earth did your groundsman manage to produce such a green looking superb outfield? Could not quite believe my eyes when watching on TV. With all the dry and hot weather around most of the grounds are now starting to show the impact of near drought conditions. Well done to your groundstaff who must have put in a tremendous effort to keep your outfield in such prime condition. As a neutral, the game was an enjoyable watch. Like many T20 games the eventual outcome was decided on fairly fine margins.

Mark Davis being out of his depth is a completely different issue to the injuries which is why I started a new paragraph. There is obvious unrest in the dressing room which is being transferred onto the pitch. There's no cohesion with the squad, we see players being brought in then dropped again. The on field decisions are also questionable, Brown at 3? 6 bowlers? Bowl first? If supporters can see where and why things are going wrong, why can't Davis? The buck ultimately stops with him.

joe,
I sympathise with your frustration. "Unrest in the dressing-room?" Where have you heard this?
Sussex are usually slow starters eg. the Championship this season, so, perhaps, the same is happening in the T20? I hope so. The club hierarchy are expecting Sussex to reach "at least" the QFs, where the team on paper represents our strongest format.
We have a new T20 Captain, who is adjusting to English conditions, so that isn't helping; and while the latest trend in the BBL and IPL is to bowl first, on the South Coast, this surely is a mistake as the last two games have shown.
Last night, there were nerves, inexperience from the youngsters, and poor bowling and fielding. All of these can be improved on. The sooner the better where our Coach must discover that team cohesion and fast.

A quarter finals appearance and a third placed championship finish might just be deemed progress, albeit minimal Anything less than that, should mean big changes at the end of the season

Hi all. Here with my take on the evening. Ps nice to finally meet Soft and Fluffy. and thanks to him for the plug. As he mentioned I am struggling for a ticket to Cheltenham on Sunday. Hopefully something will come up or the next piece will be coming from outside the ground ! Just another thing someone here mentioned the glorious state of the grounds last nite. Huge congrats to all involved. The 1st Central County Ground looked breath taking. Sussex Require White Ball Wake Up One could forgive a loss at stunning Arundel last Sunday afternoon. That game was played out under beautiful sunny skies and a near party atmosphere. As fans and players it was difficult not to get seduced by the surroundings. However tonight's loss at HQ against Hampshire might not be so easy to forget. The plain fact of the matter is that our guys have now produced 30 overs of sloppy fielding. Dropped catches and miss fields will not get you out of the group ! The notion of going off to Hove and watching another Nat West T20 Blast match keep me going though a tough day in the office. This current competition is creating lots of interest. At 5pm my mate John and I were out the door in Queens Road, we both work in Insurance Broking, marching west towards the 1st Central County Ground. On entering we immediately noticed two new imposing temporary stands on the north east side. In addition there was lots going on around the place. Including all the trappings of Sky TV. There was real buzz in the air under the bright floodlights, an expectant air of Sussex getting one over the old T20 enemy Hampshire CCC. John and I took our place in said temporary stand as Sussex took to the field. Three opening dot balls and top opening over from Weise had the home fans purring. However, batters Vince (81) and Rossouw (49) soon got the hang of things as the scoreboard raced along. 100 with out loss after 10 overs will always mean that the side batting second are in for a tough night. If you are not taking wickets then fielders need to give 100% at all times. Unfortunately no one in a Sharks shirt gave that out there tonight which meant that unnecessary runs leaked away. Eight Sussex extra's compared to two, 5 Hants catches compared to two, two dropped catches compared to one and two or three Sussex miss field leading to boundary's. That's around 20 runs difference. Hopefully you get my drift. It all added up to yet another huge ask with the bat. Luke Wright (50) continues to impress but in truth we were never in the running. Fair play to David Weise, a brutal 28, who had us hoping but trying to score 14 an over for half the inns was a challenge to far. In the end the 20th over was played out against a subdued and fast emptying County Ground as Sussex ended up 20 runs short. After two home losses it would be churlish to focus on the positives of which are a few. However the message from this columnist is that Sussex need a serious wake up call out in the field. If they can find some inspiration and dynamics out there then this will give the batting crew something a lot more comfortable to chase. Perhaps that will come as head coach Mark Davis now contemplates three back to back road trips. We will bring to the 1st of these on Sunday as we take on Gloucestershire at sold out Cheltenham. And about my £50 each way bet at 18 to one. Its by no way a dead duck just yet however Sussex's odds are on the slid to 33 to one !

Lots of negatives and few positives unfortunately. Why do we insist on chasing when we are so obviously poor at it? It's been happening for at least three years, we chase we lose we set we win - look at the stats. We are so much better at setting and squeezing but the team are oblivious to it, it seems. Change the plan and win some games.
At last we gave Garton a game but I can't fathom dropping a batter for him. Another common theme of the last few years, unbalanced and bowler heavy. Same old same old, and same old again.
