Well I think we all know the reason for Liddle's economy rate. Received wisdom is that this was one of his better days. Truth is, we have only four players these days and one is with England and the other 'sore'. What about Hobden?

Machan's looked the part again following his big hundred for the seconds Maybe we should give his ton up buddy a go as Brown's form hasn't been good

Brown at 6 isn't the answer and nor is Wells as an opener. What about giving Jackson a chance? Why bat Machan at 5 when he had great success at 3 in the Pro 40 last season? Nash and Joyce need to swap round. We also need Wright back. Please no more Liddle.

With the greatest Johnny Flynn do you have a good thing to say about any of the players? Beer cannot be blamed for today's defeat as it was a hopeless situation when he walked to the wicket. 23 off 44 balls is not good enough from Wells.

Wells and Brown used up ten overs between them, scoring 26 with no boundaries. Liddle conceded 86 runs in the same number of overs. That is simply not good enough. Wells is only playing because of Wright's injury and Brown is batting at 6 because of Yardy's injury. Liddle is the difference between the two teams.

Why did Mullaney not bowl his full allocation? Well batted Steffan.

Piolet's innings was completely, utterly relevant and deserves no plaudits whatsoever. something wrong with the logic of that sentence?

Johnny Flynn - Have you even watched a Sussex game? You seem to me and I maybe wrong as someone who has nothing good to say about anyone. Notts would have won far more comfortably were it not for the all-round performance of Steffan Piolet. To say it was irrelevent is disrespectful to say the least and shows you up as something of a bad loser. How old are you? Eight? Grow up!

Well a disappointing start to a competition I thought we'd do well in A lot of questions to be asked but it's becoming boring going over the same ground all the time A bad start, well done Stefan, and plenty of time to turn it around

Why was Steve Mag left with three overs unbowled whilst Liddle and, to a lesser extent, Hatchett leaked so many more runs than the main man.

I wonder if Steve is thinking the same thing, although I would imagine that he and Ed discussed it. Am I to understand that he can't have a sub fielder unless he sustains injury in the current match as opposed to being conserved for another day? Sorry, that's a compound sentence - illegal these days?

If Wright had been fit and had played instead of Liddle, I think we would have won this one.
And today was one of Liddle's better days - he only went for 8.6 per over. In 32 overs in the T20 he went for 305 runs at 9.33 per over. His white ball stats this season are now 391 runs from 42 overs, with 5 wkts at an average of 78.
I feel sorry for him because I think he's another bowler undone by the T20 being stretched out over four months. Only bowling four overs per week on a Friday night has completely blunted his effectiveness. He needs to be playing three T20s a week as happened under the old set-up in order to keep him match sharp. And he's not the only one; Arafat's effectivness has suffered as a result of the new format, as have other T20 specialists such as KP .
Is he really contracted until the end of 2015? If true, that's looking like a most unfortunate deadweight on next season's playing budget. Genuinely sorry for the guy. The changes to the domestic T20 have rendered him the wrong man in the wrong place at the wrong time.
On the other hand, while Liddle's career hits a brick wall due to reasons beryond his control, Piolet's stock as an all-rounder in the white-ball game continues to rise.

There were signs that Chris Liddle was starting to struggle last season, although his game has really fallen apart this season. I had huge reservations about the awarding of two year contracts to both Liddle and Zaidi, and said so at the time. Badly needed recruitment will probably have to go on hold now, at least for another year, unless some way can be found of increasing the budget. That is unlikely in this economic climate, and anyway, it wouldn't make sense to carry two thirty something bowlers who had little prospect of starting games. Can Chris Liddle rediscover his form of two years ago? Again unlikely, and a fresh start elsewhere for him and Zaidi, who hasn't looked like stepping up, may be best for all concerned. Certainly for the rest of this campaign, the focus should be on the younger players.

By the way BM, yes I agree, had Luke been playing, I think Sussex would have successfully chased down that target
