Are you still entertaining hopes of promotion Devon? I feel we’ve had ample evidence that we’re nowhere near ready for that. We are still on an upwards trajectory though, so our day should eventually come. With Ollie available after the Ashes, if we get a strong overseas bowler to go with Pujara we may well win a lot of games in September

We didn’t win any games with Ollie before the Ashes but I agree, it could all click into place in September. My concern is more about our readiness to play at a higher level. Better to wait until we are ready, I feel, than be badly exposed against significantly stronger sides.

It's more fun watching things from an optimistic point of view, we have a supremely talented group of players and weve been hindered a bit this year by injury to key players and the Garton issues almostr refusing to play red ball now.

We have done exceptionally well this season considering how weak how weak our bowling attack us.'
We have been lucky with some of the draws:
Yorkshire (H) they should have lost but for the weather Worcestershire (H) they should have won but for bottling it Glamorgan (A) they should have won but for botting it
Derbyshire (H) they should have won but for bottling it
It looks like the weather will save Sussex against Yorkshire once again.
Even the game we won Durham should really have won.
We haven't outplayed the opposition on a single occasion this season.
Garton won't play red ball cricket again as he is constantly injured. If Finn and Garton are not fit to play they should retire. SCCC are a cricket club not a charity case.
Our inability to take 20 wickets in a match is costing us dear.

I dont think Garton is injured. Interesting our winning draws were bottling it. Finn will likely retire end of season but wil serve a purpose between now and the end of the season. The off the field stuff dealing with contracts, player recruitment, where to house players, Visa issues amongst other things is a lot for 1 man to take on especially alongside coaching the 1st XI. I wonder if next year the structure they ripped apart to gain Farbrace may be reviewed alongside him if hes able to bring in his ow man.

Every man and his dog can score runs at Hove. Every man and his dog can criticise everything. What a sadly predictable reply.

What evidence do you have to support this statement?
We did exceptionally well to grab a draw from the jaws of defeat. However the opposition will be kicking themseles for not winning the game.
I am not sure Finn will retire when he can get another year's wages from Sussex.
It's crazy to think a side could get promoted with as little as 4 wins.

I think teams havew won the County Championship with only 4 wins before but i could be wrong. It's my own theory but given we were given no explanation for weeks on his absence, then it was his hip now its his groin Im just thinking that theres more to it. When you criticise my predictable reply, it's a factual statement. It's very easy to criticise and you do it alot. You stated James Coles is way out of his dpeth. He's 19 and averaging nearly 53. What does he need to do to show you he is capable? I just wonder because your expactions are incredibly high.

'We haven't outplayed the opposition on a single occasion this season'. Putting aside where within all the games you mentioned there were period's of play where we most certainly did outplay the opposition. Taking eight wickets before lunch on the first morning in the home fixture against Glamorgan is just one of many examples. Yes, the weather saved us against Yorkshire and may well do again. But, may I suggest you revisit the scorecards from our late April early May fixtures against Gloucestershire, Worcestershire and Leicestershire where sizeable sessions of play were lost denying Sussex certain victories. Yes, we are still wotk in progress, but our current position in the table reflects significant improvement and is justified on merit.

Good post, my issue with CP is that he actually wants us to lose so it can justify his complaints. He offers no solutions or positivity to anything,

Therea is our resident Tigger, whereas Cover is our Eeyore! I enjoy reading both perspectives and I feel the truth is halfway in between. We’re competing roughly on a par with the rest of the second division (unlike the last two years) but there’s still a big gap to bridge to be competitive in the first division.

The thing is i am prepared to criticise where needed but it has to be justified. We really arent a bad side and sometimes the constant use of negative language is hard to read at times because it isnt justified.

The batting in this game from us has been very poor.
Very disappointing and in truth we will learn more from defeat than limping to another draw.

I know I keep going on about this but the first thing we need to learn is to take Dan Ibrahim out of the firing line and let him regain form with the second XI. He’s averaging 12.37 and I think that’s probably before his first ball duck today.

Very disappointing. Without doubt our worst performance in the Championship this season. Completely outclassed in every department and reminiscent of much of our past three seasons. We will do well not to be all out before the close of play.
Haines out again to yet another loose shot outside his off stump. If he has real international aspirations he needs to sort this issue out as if he is being found out in Division Two of the County Championship, he will have no chance on the Test Match stage. Overall, as one of our leading batters, he has under performed this season.
Completely unreasonable to throw Tear in at three. Clark did well, but shouldn't be getting out to the part-time spin of Lyth. Ibrahim is woefully out of form and needs time back in the seconds to rebuild confidence.
Not for the first time this season, we yet again rely on Carter and hope Hudson-Prentice can continue his run of scores.
The reality is without strengthening, against stronger opposition these type of performances and results will become the norm if we somehow get promoted this season.
