Is it my imagination or have one of our openers failed to trouble the scorers an extraordinary number of times this season?

Durham win the toss and bowl first. So we obviously wanted to bat first and Durham wanted us to bat first. Sussex: Wells Finch van Zyl Evans Wright Salt Burgess Jordan Robinson Garton Whittingham. Finch out LBW to Rushworth first ball. No Archer or Briggs so only 4 bowlers. I would imagine van Zyl will bowl a fair few overs. Emboldened text says why we didn't feel confident about bowling first. Let's hope that we can get enough runs. On edit: Congratulations to Luke Wells on passing 1000 runs for the season. Here and against Derby he has come back strongly to his early season form. If Sussex had been in the promotion places he might have got the nod for one of the England Performance squads this winter.

Fun and games dividing the opposition as Coughlin(P) departs, presumably for Notts, Botham issues a "strongly worded statement" about "...directors of cricket who are also selectors.." and Durham immediately withdraw the Tweet.
Meanwhile, back amongst those actually trying to finish the 2017 County Championship season Sussex Seconds are 129-1 against Durham Seconds and the Notts Seconds bowlers have Northants First team batting 98-6.

Here we go again - 3 wickets to Keaton (expletive deleted) Jennings!

346 all out which I think is a competitive score by our 2nd XI. 3 overs left in the day to bowl at Durham.

A good day for Sussex. Congrats to Wells and van Zyl continues to prove that he's Davis's, perhaps, best signing.

Well batted Wells and Van Zyl. Interesting Archer and Briggs were ommitted. When are the club going to realise Finch is a middle order batsman?

Decent performance even if we did crumble at the end. I'd have settled that score before the day started though.

Superb from Wells and a good effort from van Zyl again as well. My friend at the match said Burgess looked very good for his 30 odd; we need to get him signed up ASAP!!! I would of taken that score after the toss I think.

Apparently Burgess had a named and numbered shirt on today, hopefully that means we've signed him. His dismissal was unlucky as he blocked the ball but it rolled onto the stumps just hard enough to dislodge a bail.
