van Zyl goes to 1000 runs for the season. Good stuff. Despite all the anti Kolpak rhetoric, I reckon he's been an excellent signing. I doubt we'd have hit the dizzy heights of 5th in the Second Division without him.

I missed the morning session due to the BBC getting the forecast entirely wrong. Rain had been forecast from 10am to late afternoon but there were no rain interruptions at all. I got there just after lunch to see Wells flash at a ball from Rushworth to be caught behind. A mate who had been there from the start of play said that Both Wells and Finch had batted very well, rattling along at 4.5 an over, although the Durham bowling to that point hadn't been too good. Maybe Sussexhad looked at the BBC Weather forecast too!
Evans came and went very quickly and Luke Wright was leg before to one that kept very low, although it didn't look a good shot. Van Zyl continued where he left off in the first innings and didn't look in any trouble until he flicked at a ball going down leg side to be caught behind. Young Salt then batted very well, with solid support from Burgess, Robinson and Jordan, until he was bowled by Jennings. Garton got one that spun back a long way to bowl him and Whittingham was run out when CJ tried to run two to retain the strike.
The pitch still seems pretty slow although Steele was getting some turn but with Sussex not having a front line spinner in the team, I would make Durham favourites to win tomorrow.

Northfan, surprised to hear it turned! Must be the hot northern climate? Sussex again fail to read the conditions and might regret not having one? I'm still puzzled by the insistence of selecting Briggs, who's wickets are costing 50? Over the under used Beer at 12? Are our management dyslexic when it comes to reading pitches?
It looks a tough day ahead. Sussex need someone other than Robinson & Jordan to carry the bowling. The over hyped Garton needs to show why he's so highly rated. Plenty of opportunities, no fruit bourn, yet.
SVZ, good signing, contributes in all formats. Wiese, poor signing, contributed little in all formats.

Whittingham opening the bowling didn't bode well but he's now bowled 5 overs for 6 runs and got the wicket of Latham. CJ has just bowled Jennings. 24-2.

Lunch 92-7. Great morning for Sussex. Garton and Whittingham have bowled much better than they did in first innings.

Whittingham shatters Weighell's stumps. 111-8
It's gone very gloomy and rain is forecast around 3. Hopefully Sussex can wrap it up before then

Garton & Whittingham 4-41-16. Any good this time? Great move by Wells to show a little faith, something that's been sadly lacking for so long. Give the man the captaincy - keepers shouldn't captain anyway, they have enough on.
Trust in your own, they're English, and the English produce good players believe it or not. Now stand for the national anthem.
5-41 then. Whatever.
