Is it possible to come to an agreement with Taylor which involves him leaving and coming back for T20s only so that we can employ an overseas seamer from this week, or would that be a bloody liberty? It's the right thing to do if it's possible.

It's the right thing to do if it's possible. Or to get the ECB to admit that, if they are prepared to sanction an England contracted player leaving to play IPL cricket then his county is entitled to sign an additional overseas player as cover. Of course the problem with both options now is that there are hardly any left worth having who aren't already playing for counties, involved in the IPL, or pressrving themselves for the CPL. The entire population of New Zealand, apart from one or two of the less-talented sheep, seem to be spread out among the shires, for instance.

Jb, The club bent over backwards at the end of 2014 to help Robinson and Joyce compete for the Championship Trophy in 2015. They overspent their playing budget on players like Shahzad and Mills because Robinson wanted to strengthen the bowling attack and the rest, as they say, is a nightmarish history. Off-field commercial activities are not bringing in the amount of revenues as hoped, yet, not helped by the growing numbers of club staff whose wages are only diluting the profits. All the excellent community work being carried out, could take years for the financial benefits to materialise. The one good prospect are the 5 offices built over the Winter which should accrue around £100k a year when all are rented out. So, I would suggest the club have little money left to spend on yet more wages for fast bowlers. We have Garton and Whittingham in the wings. Already, George has made an impact. I am not clear what you are expecting? A trawl of Lashings XI could help. What about Devon Malcolm? He's only 53 years-old and still bowling strong; or Courtney Walsh, Andy Caddick and Martin Bicknell; Why not the old Sussex favourites like Collymore and Arafat - let's bring them back? They shouldn't cost the earth and supporters can feel young again! In all seriousness, Dirk Nannes is 'only' 39 years-old and still a pretty decent bowler. Why not sign him up on a short contract to cover the loss of Jordan? We are playing in Division 2 now. www.lashings.co.uk/players.html

We may have pushed the boat out last year to add Shahzad and Mills, but we've lost a whole raft of senior players since then, including Mills himself, who is on a pay as you play contract. As I mentioned, even on a reduced budget, there should be enough slack, with the loss of Hobden, Anyon, and now Jordan

Meanwhile in the IPL, CJ gets his second outing with RCB. Didn't bat, bowled 4 overs which went for 52!

When does Jordan return from mickey mouse cricket in India? The final is May 29th, it will depend on how far RCB get in the competition.

Caught CJ's final over tonight. It was horrendous and the batsmen will be hanging their heads in shame at not putting away three full tosses for at least one boundary. They scored ten off two of the other balls. It was shocking all round.
He shouldn't walk straight back in if we're bowling sides out cheap by the time he's back anyway. In the seconds lad. RCB will do well to make the final despite their batting line-up.

In the context of the game though, after RCB had posted 248 and Gujarat Lions were on the back foot under scoreboard pressure, wickets were always going to be easy to get. I'd like to see Jordan bowling as well as he did for England in the World Cup when he's under pressure.

No central or incremental England contract for CJ. The good news is that we'll hopefully see more of him with Sussex. The bad news is that Sussex will now pay his wages which must be substantial.

21 players get ECB contracts. 18 of them are with Div One counties.
The only exceptions are Moeen Ali and the Notts pair of Broad and Hales, who have just been relegated. And Hales is likely to move this winter, according to reports.
Northants have done very well to secure Duckett on a contract extension because the clear message is that you absolutely have to do your stuff in Div One to get an England contract.
I can see Jordan wanting a move to a Div One county to get his England career back on track and requesting release from the contract extension he signed in March for the 2017 season. Sussex may not be averse to that: when the contract was signed, neither party anticipated that six months later he would lose his ECB funding. He's aslo unlikely to be available in county cricket until the beginning of June due to the IPL.
Billings at Kent is also reportedly after a similar contract release in order to pursue his England ambitions.

That may be jumping the gun a bit, but we'd soon see if Sussex had ambitions to once again become a top division county. Lack of ambition recently has seen us slip to a point where it's now difficult to attract the better players to the club. With that in mind, when we have a player who can help us regain our former status, we certainly shouldn't consider letting him go. He's under contract, so let's see what he can do with a full season of playing for Sussex. If we fail again, yes he might not sign another contract, but at a time when it's difficult for us to recruit quality, lets not let him walk away.
