Good to see Luke Wells score his first century for Lancs, and in very quick time. This is the player who inexplicably wasn't picked in any game for Sussex last year while "youth" was given its chance. Fortunately for Luke that Sussex view of him wasn't shared by Lancs, so now he's playing at a Test ground and has even played some 50 over and T20 games, something which was denied him for most of his time at Sussex. It's hard to see how he wouldn't have been an asset this season, given our club's obvious need to balance inexperience with seasoned performers.

I understand what you are saying about Wells. Rough deal last year but not the only one. Wells problem, he didn't get enough the previous 2 seasons, (2018 & 2019). Have to think that Gillespie had decided he wasn't going to be part of the future. He's done OK at Lancs. Let's see what happens next season.

Still big questions over why he didn’t play a single game in 2020, meanwhile we were fielding sides which left us asking “who?”.

Top three's the best thing to come out of this season. That and everybody moaning except me for once. It makes me question, am I always wrong? No. You all are.

Yep we’ve definitely stumbled on a solid top 3 and probably only need a decent O/S batter who can also captain the CC side.
My team for 2022 looks much more competitive than the ones we’ve been putting out of late. I know we won’t have Robinson around much but he should be available for the start of the season to get us off to a good start.
Haines Orr Brown O/S * Ibrahim Carter + Hudson-Prentice Garton Robinson/Carson Atkins Finn

Might have Archer for the first few too I reckon.
It'll be even more competitive if we have another OS bat at five. Six bowlers is a luxury and comes off the back off a batsman being able to bowl not a bowler being able to bat. But you're close Joe. Ibrahim can come again, but at seven-ish.

Agreed. Our new top 3, then overseas bats at four and five. My only issue after that would be what cover do we have, particularly the opening spots as we won’t even have Salt or Thomason as options. Who would we have - Rawlins, Coles, Clark, Ward…ok, not much experience but something to work with.

Who would we have - Rawlins, Coles, Clark, Ward…ok, not much experience but something to work with. You don't want experience as cover, experience plays. Replace Rawlins with Hinley and Lenham and we have five perfect young back-ups - cheap, homegrown and eager to learn and wait their chance in the twos. Perfect set-up. We probably want one more quick, again from the academy, to go along side Hunt, Crocombe and Sarro as back-up to Finn, Garton, Atkins. We got Ibrahim for H-P and A. Lenham for Carson. It's shaping up, and to be perfectly honest, if our two OS had performed to a level expected of them our season could have been much better. The youth were brilliant.

I've commented before on here about how shocking and unwarranted Luke Wells' treatment was by Sussex last season. This article in today's Sunday Times reveals how he was told early in the season by the coach that he was unlikely to feature in red ball OR white ball matches. And sometimes he wasn't even selected for squad training. Is that the way Sussex treats its players, especially one with Wells' career aggregate of runs? www.thetimes.co.uk/article/luke-wells-i-was-in-a-dark-place-but-now-i-dont-overstress-0b9290tgsHow Sussex could have done with someone with his experience during 2021. And, for that matter, of Danny Briggs' red-ball experience. Unfortunately Sussex's loss has been Lancashire's and Warwickshire's gain. And when I last looked, they've both done somewhat better than Sussex this season!

Don’t be silly, you know we’re just meant to allow players to go to these bigger counties, and it’s all part of a five-year plan😉

With Robinson just been given a central contract, surely that means they'll be some extra cash for some signings
