The club is not 'broke', but cutting its coat according to its cloth, in order to avoid going broke.
Payments to these overseas stars will depend on the club's income level in 2021. This announcement is PR rather than a budget forecast! Are you saying these players are not contracted and therefore could sign for anybody else No, I'm not saying that. If you read the club's statement - sussexcricket.co.uk/news/overseas-player-update-head-van-zyl-khan-and-wiese - you'll see that Head and van Zyl's contracts were deferred from 2020 to 2021. They could equally be deferred again, I guess - and we don't know what opt-out clauses might be in those contracts. I can't see the club committing itself to paying salaries if there's no cricket to play. My reading is that the club would also like to hire Khan and/or Wiese 'if circumstances permit'. So, no more than an ambition at this stage. The 2021 season is a total unknown at present. The club's statement is intended to reassure supporters/members that it has a positive 'exciting' attitude towards next season.

With Sussex, that’s not a relevant issue anyway Why not an issue with Sussex. Surely if they have a contract to come and play for Sussex we have an obligation to honour this and pay them. If this is case must have been budgeted for. If of course there are no contracts must be free to sign for anybody. I am just suprised we are going to this expense Evans had a contract didn’t he?

Here is the latest info from Sussex, so good timing. Andrew reckons the club could have lost £3m this season. WOW! that's an awful lot of money for a small club. A SnippetTo offset the loss of revenue we have implemented a raft of actions to reduce costs as much as possible. From the Government furlough scheme to salary reductions and operational cost reductions we have done everything we can to minimise the impact of lost revenue. In addition, we have taken out a Government backed Coronavirus Business Interruption Loan (CBIL) to assist with cashflow over the next 12 months. We have been extremely grateful for the support and generosity of our members who have donated their fees, without this support we would be facing an even greater cash loss for 2020.sussexcricket.co.uk/news/update-rob-andrew

Interesting, if we’ve lost an estimated £3m due to Covid, where was that money going previously It didn’t always show up in the accounts

This has evolved. Judging by a certain like I think Ashington has provided the loan - got any more where that came from Ash? I need a new Karaoke machine.
So ultimately, the spec hasn't changed. T20 is number one.

😂😂😂If only! And for the retro-ness (is that a word?) of your request, I’d buy you one! No I believe it’s a loan from the government.

Will Sheffield has been released. I think the lad had a lot injuries and consequently only played one first class game for us. Just bad luck for him that his contract is up during these testing times.

Joe,
Well done for getting the lowdown earlier this week.
Injury must be the most common problem for young seamers, who don't have the adequate physique to experience the hardships on their body. I would rather be a spinner any day.
Fingers-crossed for Crocombe and, of course, Garton going forward.

It was appeared to me that Garton was carefully managed by Sussex, when others on here, including me, were pushing for him to be used a lot more

Anyone got any definite news on who is out of contract this season? Evans, Wells, Briggs, Finch, Wiese and young Sheffield have all left, and if remember correctly, Claydon and Thomason’s contracts are also up. Bopara I think got a two year deal, as did maybe, Meaker, although the former’s deal was for him to play in all formats I believe.
