Gotta feel for Jordan, he averages 28 with the bat and 35 with the ball with 17 catches and gets a 5. Wiese averages 26 and 35 with one catch and gets a 7.5. Are you a Nevada state boxing judge Joe? JB, Head ain't batting five for us. If that's the plan Gillespie has made another poor signing. You may be right regarding our balance, especially early season. That's either or for me. Where David Wiese has impressed this year is with the bat in white ball cricket. In the RLODC, he averaged 98.75 at a rate of 120.43 per 100 balls - this was second in the country. In the T20, he averaged 40.57 at a rate of 149.47 per 100 balls - this was 20th in the country. I would say that his batting has saved Sussex this season on a number of occasions whereas his bowling has been a bit below par except for a few good performances. In T20, I felt (though I may be wrong) that he often got the 'awkward odd over' when a spinner had been smashed around. Chris Jordan, in comparison, had a poor white ball season.

My CC team for next season
1. Luke Wells 2. New Signing/ Phil Salt 3. Stiaan van Zyl 4. Travis Head 5. Ben Brown+ 6. Ravi Bopara 7. David Wiese* 8. George Garton 9. Will Beer 10. New Signing/ Jordan 11. Ollie Robinson
Openers I would like another opener to go with Wells as although Salt has done a decent job he is much better suited to the middle order where he can be at his most destructive. Wells will open as I believe he has much more to give from last season.
Top Order Van Zyl and Head will probably be the backbone of the batting for Sussex in 2020. Head is not opening as I want him to be able to score as many runs as possible so putting him into his preferred position is a start.
Middle Order Brown will go at 5 and take the gloves. He won't captain this year to help relive pressure on his batting. Bopara is at 6, at first I wanted to put Rawlins here however Bopara stats for 2019 were very good, averaging just under 40 and two tons in Div 1. Bopara will also bring a bit of bowling and a lot of experience to the side. At 7 is Wiese, he had an incredible white ball season and I back him to do this in the Championship next season, he brings a bowling option and experience as well as his batting.
Lower Order At 8 is Garton, he deserves a run in the Championship after his good RL One day cup season. His 90+ Mph left arm bowling will challenge batsmen especially at the extremes of the season. Also a handy batsmen as shown with two fifties in two innings last season. Beer is at 9, I have chosen him over Briggs as he will take more wickets despite being less economical. Handy with the bat. Jordan or New signing are at 10, Jordan should have a better bowling season which why I think a new bowler would challenge him to do so. Finally Robinson at 11, Easiest pick just need to keep him for as long as possible.
Captain: David Wiese He has been at Sussex for two years and proven to be a great club man as well as performing well so for me he is the skipper.

I read in The Sunday Times (Lizzy Ammon) that from 2021 all Kolpaks will be banned as we are not in the EU. They will have to be overseas or? Can they be UK residents? ECB looking at expanding the overseas rule for CC.
If this is correct this will effect many teams? I see Durham have signed 2 today. Some teams might lose all the good players.
It could mean more opportunity for English players, that can only be good for the game in the UK.
Can someone who knows more than me confirm or deny this will happen?

grandavefan, I wrote an article about this subject last week. unofficialsussexccc.freeforums.net/post/33318/threadMy research suggests that nothing has been confirmed yet and nothing will be until we know whether Britain leaves the European Union with a deal or whether it ends up as a hard Brexit. If the latter then Kolpaks may be banned and instead the ECB could change the present O/S ruling by allowing two players per county for the Championship mirroring the T20 rule. At present, anything stated EG: Lizzy Ammon, is only speculation.

Britain have only left the ECB by name with a minimum of a one year transition. Going by the past this period may well continue on to 2021. The ECB use the word 'expectation', for what journalist Will Macpherson doesn't mention is that if an acceptable deal is struck between Britain and the European Union, there is a fair likelihood the Kolpak situation will be unaffected. Only if it is a 'Hard Brexit' then Kolpaks would end.
Let us see how all the guff, bluff and general chest thumping stuff between the two countries go this year. We are in for some topsy turvey negotiations. I am sure county cricket will keep a beady eye on proceedings.

Interesting. If this happens where do Sussex sit with our two Kolpaks? Do we honour Wiese and van Zyl’s contracts beyond 2020 by signing them as our 2 overseas players for the CC?

The problem as I see it is, we will surely have to use one of our overseas spots for the CC to bring in a new strike bowler. We were in desperate need of one anyway, when Archer disappeared, so even more so, now that Robbo has caught the eye of the selectors. Possibly Wiese could get one of the one day OS slots, depending on who leaves at the end of the season. Its quite likely that we may see a mass exodus

I would agree that without Archer and Robinson, we need another strike bowler. As you say, I'm getting the impression that there are going to be a lot ins and outs at the end of this season.

I think we’ll use Head and van Zyl as our CC overseas and Khan and Wiese as our T20 overseas next season.
I also think Wells, Finch and Thomason will leave the club and Evans, Briggs and Beer offered white ball only contracts.
Tom Clark and Jack Carson are worth one year rookie deals.
( I don’t think Evans will take the white ball only contract, he’s probably negotiating with Surrey as we speak! )

It’s been dogs dinner of a recruitment these last few years

I think it depends on how they all play in this shortened season and whether they all remain fit.
Mills bowled well last year but broke down a couple of times, if he can stay fit he’ll probably get another year.
I can’t believe Claydon will have been given more than a year when he signed for us but perhaps there’s a coaching role thrown in? I’ve heard he’s a good bloke to have around the dressing room and I’m sure our young bowlers can learn from him.
Meaker has only had one game and although he didn’t pull up any trees you can’t make a judgement on one game.

Off to Warwickshire at the end of the season. Quickly followed by Wells to Kent, I wouldn’t be surprised
