A Gillespie on the back foot tells Adrian Harms, "It was a very difficult decision to leave the Club, but it was the right one for my career..."
Umm... (biting one's lip).

Winning the CC with our squad, hard to do without any quality batter(s) to give a total. Why, last year we had Beer opening a few times. No complaints with is performance as a batter (In fact he was more reliable than most batters) but his role was a bowler who could bat. This year, same old, same old but younger. Only Clark has emerged. A fluent left hander with potential. The find for me. The rest (Apart from Salt & Brown) basically a good 2nd team. Sorry boys but you are. The better players are not in the country or banished to T20 squad. Man management or knowing I'm going, I'll stir it up a bit, get rid of the average and over paid? Was that in his parting gift? T20 I thought Dizzy did well. In the final that year I always felt that Archer, Mills & Jordan bowled poorly at the end and lost the game. Can't blame Dizzy for that.
New coach/replacement? Not Robinson or Moores. Backward step. No Greenfield cronies and/or bedfellows. Forward thinking needed here. Someone young? An out of work/retired coach, not former player, Andy Flower, Micky Arthur, Mark Ramprakash for example?

Can he be blamed for not picking Wells in the BWT and loaning out Evans and not recruiting a batsman in, even on loan?

I agree bring back griz who has the passion and love for the club we need right now. Greenfield must go and Andrew who has failed too. We have become too focused on t20. Never wanted dizzy as he is out of his depth at a small county like us with no money like he had at Yorkshire. He has failed and we have gone backwards since he took over. We need serious investment and a change in our recruitment policy but doubt if the money is available. Griz is the man with Matt as a deputy or yards.

I know Grizz was a legend as captain in our glory years, but that was a long time ago, 12 years in fact since he left. It’s also a long time since he worked as a coach in the professional game. Appointing him would just feel a bit of a clamouring back to the past and an attempt to get the glory days back.

I think Rob Andrew has done a decent job. He’s kept us in the black ( till Covid-19) and implemented some much needed ground improvements which pay for themselves in stages. He’s also been noticeably vocal in the meetings with the ECB. You can’t really blame him for the failure of the CC side, he leaves everything on the cricket field to the D of C and the head coach.
I agree that appointing Chris Adams would be a backward step but part of me would like to see him given a year to see what he could do.

Andrew is only interested in ground redevelopment and not improving the team. No ambition in the club playing wise eg signing Claydon. We need at least 3 quality batsmen for a promotion push next season. Forget ground redevelopment and improve the team.
Give griz a chance. Sussex through and through. Would much prefer him to dizzy and Davis. Have been going to Hove for over 50 years and am very disallusioned. Northants at home last season and Kent this season 2 of our worst ever defeats. Dizzy Andrew and Greenfield must all go.

I agree with Joe, the ground redevelopments and investments are to try and make the club sustainable in the long term. As we have seen from Graves comments in the Telegraph & highlighted in the other thread, that is something we are going to desperately need. Graves knows the cash won't be there to help teams out having frittered away the ECB's reserves on his vanity project. All part of his plan.

At any other club, wouldn't you expect the Director of Cricket to be in total control of the cricket? Sussex's problem in this area is self-inflicted. Don't blame Andrew for our on-field failures.

Who will be the next Sussex coach? Probably another old player like Adams, Davis, Lewis, Moores or Robinson!

Andrew is in charge of the purse strings and apart from Head he has not recruited well enough for red ball cricket so he is to blame but dizzy and Greenfield are also in the dock. Bring back griz and Matt.

If so, was anything interesting said ?

Tb,
Although with Dizzy gone, will Travis Head now decide not to come over next season? This move was very much the instigation of Gillespie due to their Adelaide Strikers connection.
