Finally some sense from an Englishman:
@ryansidebottom This isn’t a bad pitch ... 550 runs from India in this match. Proving you can score runs, be a great test for England to dig deep and score runs. There’s always gonna be home advantage by playing to your strengths, like Greener wickets in England #testcricket #INDvsENG
Other tweets
Whether a pitch is good or bad can’t be judged from one team’s lack of skill to play on it. And if a Test ends in less than 5 days because of that inability, don’t blame the pitch. To me a poor pitch is one that can’t produce 40wkts or one that risks injuries for batsmen #IndvEng
5 Indians have scored half centuries with one daddy hundred on what is touted as an unplayable pitch! Rohit Ajinkya Rishabh Virat and Ashwin.
Players to a score a hundred & take a five-wicket haul in a Test
Ian Botham - 5
Garry Sobers - 2
M Mohammad - 2
J Kallis - 2
R Ashwin - 2
Shakib Al Hasan - 2
Ashwin's looking become the only player after Ian Botham to achieve this double on more than two occasions.

I would drop Burns, Lawrence, Broad and Stone and bring in Crawley, Bess, Archer and Anderson and bat Moeen at 3 like we did the last tour.

What was the point of bringing him in for one test? I would certainly bring back Anderson, Archer and Bess for Ali, Broad and Stone. I would also expect Crawley to come back in for Burns.

I would also expect Crawley to come back in for Burns. He's been on tour in a bubble (or in quarantine when he tested positive for Covid) for 6 weeks, and it was always planned that he would return home (to a young family, I believe) at this point.

I’d go with that but don’t think we’ll need 2 spinners under lights with the pink ball so I’d swap Bess for Wood/Stone.

Win toss, win game. Moeen & Leach turning it square on day one, with some not turning which makes it even trickier. Uneven bounce too. 350, 285, 220, 175. Give or take. Optimist Yep, pattern was right though. We won the first test cos we won the toss, they won the second cos they did. Hopefully that pattern can change if the next one is a day/night pink affair. Wondered why it's starting five hours later. Might have to bunk off work.

Christ on stilts I bunked off work for this debacle of a batting display. So many batsmen playing for spin that isn't there, shambolic. Well & truly back down to earth over the second and third tests for this very ordinary England test team.
Leach goes, 98-8.

Why is Bess not playing when India's spinners have taken nine wickets?

Why is Bess not playing when India's spinners have taken nine wickets? I thought India played one too many and England played one short - 3 & 2 seemed right to me, so they should have played Bess. It is in India after all but they went dizzy with the pink ball and the day/night thing I reckon. On this evidence India should have played five spinners cos England are clueless. Top order batters missing slow straight balls, astonishing. The ball's turning sharp about one in 30. Play for the 29 that don't and let the one spin off elsewhere you morons. Ever heard of moving your feet too? Get down. Too late now, done for. Game over.

And to make matters worse, Stokes clearly grasses a chance and England moan like crazy at the right decision of not out. Very poor.
