Terrific knock from Haines with great support from Robinson but the rest were an absolute shambles.

Good 'old' Tommy Haines. Nice knock, and not a bad end of play after a decidedly dodgy start. Must say, I liked the live stream video via Lancashire CCC ... things have moved on a long way, and for free

Terrific knock from Haines with great support from Robinson but the rest were an absolute shambles. Yes it’s only one innings so I’m not going to carried away and write everyone off, but signs already there from last season, coupled with the lack of recruitment. That said, perfect bowling conditions first up, and let’s see how we do in our second innings. Oh and with the ball as well.

Need to find an opener to support Haines. Salt, when fit, is not the answer in the four day format. Time for one of the other contracted youngsters/academy lads to be given a chance with a view to the future.

I was one of the Haines doubters last season but listening to his interview it seems his attitude to the game and his work ethic in training etc has improved dramatically and as he said, he feels something has just clicked. Long may it continue. There’s not many better sights in cricket than a left handed batter caressing the ball through the covers.
Hopefully we can scrape 3 batting points before we see what the bowlers can do.
An encouraging start.

Haven't got any doubts about Haines, as he's still young and has been heading steadily in the right direction in the last 3 years or so. The lack of depth and experience in the squad is a worry though ....
On the bright side, at least we got the first batting collapse of the season out of the way early and recovered well! You can only make the best from what you have got, so onwards and upwards.

Three batting points and Ollie takes the first Lancashire wicket. The positive momentum from yesterday afternoon continues. edit: Ollie takes another. Lancashire 30-2edit: Morning's play gets better and better. George takes his first wicket. Superb bowling in tandem from the seamers. Lancashire 41-3.Meanwhile, due to Prince Philip's passing this morning, all BBC Radio cricket commentary has been suspended. edit: Lancashire 52-3 (at lunch). Excellent morning's play from Sussex.

I'm started to get excited. I'm getting into that mode where I am hoping for just one more good session. Of course, I will want just one more good position if the next session is a good one. However, I need to calm down, especially at my age. There's a long way to go yet.

Phil Salt remains sidelined with his foot injury. This is exactly the scenario we all hoped wouldn’t happen before Travis Head gets here at the end of the month. A batsman down with no one to come in (except the newly contracted Ali Orr) On the back foot before we start. That's why we signed him. Why else would we wait until April to offer him a contract? It's ridiculous frankly. Are you paying attention Sharkey? Salt remains summin' or other. I'm off work cos I have to pick my nephew up from prison - 15 years? That's very lenient. Anywho, we might pop in. Do sledges cost about the same as taxis? Me and killer went to the wrong ground - who moved Hove to Lancashire? Great start for Haines, nothing better than a young homie doing well. I don't like to moan, as is known, that rhymed, but why are we still not opening the bowling with Garton? Surely he should be opening with Robinson now. A rookie left arm quick getting the gig is a kick in the teeth I think. P.S. Take a chill pill Phil, the thrill can kill if you're over the hill. That all rhymed and I'm not even a poet.

To keep the excitement to "a calm frisson", I came across this on Twitter. The number of YouTube views directly related to Day 1 of the Championship. Not sure what this means, but presumably video snippets of wickets being taken and runs scored via social media. The Lancashire v Sussex match comes second behind the Middlesex v Somerset 51,000 hits.
The Lancashire live stream reached a peak of around 2,000 viewers watching at the same time yesterday during the post Tea session. This was eclipsed during today's morning's play.
YouTube Views, Day One:
Essex v Worcestershire - 15k Notts v Durham - 13k Warwickshire v Derbyshire - 22k Gloucestershire v Surrey N/A Leicestershire v Hampshire - 24k Middlesex v Somerset - 51k Lancashire v Sussex - 32k Northamptonshire v Kent N/A Yorkshire v Glamorgan 22k
Footnote
There will be a two minute silence from the players before the post-lunch session begins along with each wearing a black armband in memory of Prince Philip's passing.

Good pressure from all the seamers and just reward for Robinson and Garton who were the best of the four.
So far so good

Lancashire: 206-4 (At Tea)
The Sussex seamers lost their way in this post lunch session taking just the one wicket. And once more, the spin option looks weak. Carson appears to be experiencing the pressure of expectation and Rawlins inconsistency does not help.
This was Lancashire's session after Sussex had bossed the previous two. It's looking a little ominous with Vilas eyeing a BIG score.
As Adrian Harms, says, "A crucial session coming up."

Sussex need to toughen up. They have allowed Lancashire back into the game. Mr Brown has lots of bowling options; he needs to use them better. The lack of an experienced spinner is a worry. This is where a Captain earns his money. A tough talk to the lads over tea. Serious pressure to be put on Lancs by bowling line and length to set fields.

A very placid pitch offering little to the bowlers and Sussex’s young squad being put to the sword. Even Robinson looked fairly innocuous with the new ball. I feel the game is getting away.
Regroup and come out fighting tomorrow. If we can keep the lead to under 100........
